Paul Maroon
The Walkmen is an American rock band formed in New York City in 2000. The band consists of Hamilton Leithauser (vocals), Paul Maroon (guitar, keyboards), Walter Martin (bass, organ), Peter Matthew Bauer (organ, bass) and Matt Barrick (drums) - all former members of Jonathan Fire*Eater and the Recoys. Initially active from 2000 to 2013, they are known as part of the 2000s-era post-punk revival in New York City, particularly for their critically acclaimed single " The Rat". Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. The Recoys
James Hamilton Leithauser (born April 15, 1978) is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is the lead vocalist of the American indie rock band The Walkmen, with whom he wrote and recorded seven studio albums from 2000 to 2014. Prior to The Walkmen's formation, Leithauser and bass guitarist and organist, Peter Matthew Bauer, were both members of The Recoys. Leithauser was born and raised in Washington, DC, and has lived in New York City since the 1990s. Leithauser embarked upon a solo career in 2014, releasing his debut studio album, '' Black Hours'', on June 3, written and recorded alongside his Walkmen bandmate Paul Maroon. In 2016, Leithauser collaborated with former Vampire Weekend multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij on the studio album '' I Had a Dream That You Were Mine'', under both artists' names. Maret School is a coeducational, non-sectarian, K–12 independent school in Washington, D.C. It was founded by Marthe Maret in 1911 as a French primary school for girls and boys. History In the late 1800s and early 1900s, three French sisters, Mlles. Marthe, Louise, and Jeanne Maret, left their home in the village of Marignan (Sciez) in France close by Geneva, Switzerland, to teach. Louise taught in Russia, Jeanne in the Philippines, and Marthe (who became blind at age 18), in Washington, D.C. Fleet Foxes are an American indie folk band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 2006. The band currently consists of Robin Pecknold (vocals, guitar), Skyler Skjelset (guitar, mandolin, backing vocals), Casey Wescott (keyboards, mandolin, backing vocals), Christian Wargo (bass, guitar, backing vocals), and Morgan Henderson (upright bass, guitar, woodwinds, violin, percussion, saxophone). ''You & Me'' is the fourth studio album by the American rock band the Walkmen, released on August 19, 2008, by Gigantic Music. Release A special pre-release of the album was made available on July 29, 2008 through the independent music website Amie Street. The album sold for five dollars, with proceeds going to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The album was officially released in the United States on August 19, 2008. During its first week of sales, the album charted at number 29 on Billboard's Top Digital Albums. The album was initially released on CD, with a limited heavyweight red vinyl edition released on September 2. ''You & Me'' was released in the UK on September 29, 2008 by independent label Fierce Panda. ''"Pussy Cats" Starring the Walkmen'' is a studio album by the American rock band the Walkmen, released on October 24, 2006, by Record Collection. The album is a song-for-song cover of the 1974 Harry Nilsson album ''Pussy Cats'' which was produced by John Lennon. The decision to cover the ''Pussy Cats'' album, which is a band favourite, started off as a joke that evolved into a full-fledged album released only 5 months after their previous record, ''A Hundred Miles Off''. The album also served as a last project for the band's studio, Marcata Recording. Marcata, which band members Matt Barrick, Paul Maroon and Walter Martin built in 1999, was located in a building owned by Columbia University, which took the property back in 2006.
