Paul M. Naghdi
Paul Mansour Naghdi (March 29, 1924 – July 9, 1994) was a professor of mechanical engineering at University of California, Berkeley. Early life and education Paul Naghdi was born in Tehran on March 29, 1924. In 1943, in order to pursue his education, he undertook a perilous voyage to the United States, during which he helped navigate the ship. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University and graduated in January 1946. After a short period in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, he enrolled in the graduate program in the engineering mechanics department of the University of Michigan in the summer of 1946. He was granted U.S. citizenship in 1948. Also in 1948, he received an M.S. degree. In 1951 got a PhD at the University of Michigan with the dissertation: "Large Deformation of Elasto-Plastic Circular Plates with Polar Symmetrical Loading".
