Paul Haavaoks
Paul Haavaoks (12 April 1924 Värska, Setumaa – 30 September 1983) was an Estonian poet. He had several jobs. For some time, he was a member of the Saatse Parish executive committee. Värska
Värska () is a small borough () in Setomaa Parish, Võru County in southeastern Estonia. At the 2021 Census, the settlement's population was 414. It is the most populous village of the Paris History Värska was first mentioned in written sources in 1585. Värska is the birthplace of the poet Paul Haavaoks (1924–1983). Geography Värska is located in the east of Võru County, near the border with Russia, 70 km southeast of Tartu. The town stands on the Gulf of Värska, part of Lake Pihkva. Setumaa
Setomaa (; , ) is a region south of Lake Peipus and traditionally inhabited by the Seto people. The Seto dialect is a variety of South Estonian. The historic range of Setomaa is located in the territories of present-day Estonia and Russia. Estonian Setomaa presently consists of lands in Võru County located in southeastern Estonia and bordering Russia. Petseri (Russian: Pechory) has been the historic and cultural centre for the Setos. Põlva
Põlva (; ) is a town in southeastern Estonia, the county seat of Põlva County, and the centre of Põlva Parish. Põlva is home for the Intsikurmu Music Festival Grounds, which regularly hosts concerts and summer activities, situated in a small forested area on the west side of the town. History The name "Põlva" appears in the historical record in 1452. The name seems to derive from the Estonian word for "knee" (). Legend has it that a girl was immured in a kneeling position in St. Mary's Church to keep the devil away. This is reputedly how the town was named. Põlva was an old military crossroad between the north and south of Livonia. Around 1240, shortly after the Christianization of Estonia, the Bernardine monks built a church, which they dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The church was subordinate to the Bishopric of Dorpat.
