Paul B. Cutler
Paul B. Cutler is an American producer and guitarist, best known for his work with the Dream Syndicate and 45 Grave. Career Cutler's first band, the Consumers, were the first punk rock band from Phoenix, Arizona. In 1979, he founded the punk and gothic band 45 Grave, who played off and on until 1990 and released several records. 45 Grave had formed alongside another Cutler band with almost the same lineup called Vox Pop, which released two singles. In 1981, he played bass with the LAFMS-affiliated art group Bpeople, also producing and engineering their eponymous 1981 single, and producing and remixing their 1986 compilation album ''Petrified Conditions 1979-1981''. In 1982, Cutler played on the ''Life Out on the Lawn'' 12" EP by Gleaming Spires; that same year, he engineered and produced the debut EP by Los Angeles-based Paisley Underground band the Dream Syndicate. Punk Rock
Punk rock (also known as simply punk) is a rock music genre that emerged in the mid-1970s. Rooted in 1950s rock and roll and 1960s garage rock, punk bands rejected the corporate nature of mainstream 1970s rock music. Los Angeles Free Music Society
The Los Angeles Free Music Society (LAFMS) is a loose underground collective of experimental avant-rock artist-musicians formed in 1973. Described as a "lightning rod for art-damage, weird-music lovers everywhere," LAFMS was formed by Chip Chapman, Joe Potts, Rick Potts and Tom Recchion. In addition to performing in various configurations, LAFMS produced records, organized concerts, and produced a magazine titled ''Light Bulb.'' Members of the collective performed as Le Forte Four, Airway, Smegma, Monique Experience, Foundation Boo, Extended Organ, and The Doo-Dooettes. Plasticland is an American neo-psychedelia and garage rock revival band formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1980 by two members of Arousing Polaris, Glenn Rehse and John Frankovic. Career Several guitarists and drummers would rotate in and out of the band over time, but Glenn Rehse and John Frankovic have remained the core of the band. Dan Mullen was the second guitarist for most of the 1980s recordings and live appearances. Brian Ritchie, later of the Violent Femmes, played guitar briefly with the band on early recordings. ''Ghost Stories'' is the fourth studio album by the Los Angeles-based alternative rock band ''The Dream Syndicate''. It was released in 1988, just a year before the group disbanded. The album was re-released in 2004, with eight additional tracks recorded live for radio. Background The Dream Syndicate were dropped from A&M Records for disappointing sales after ''Medicine Show'' (1984), and broke up. They got back together to make ''Out of the Grey'' (1986) on Big Time Records, but the record company folded and the band retired again. Lead singer and songwriter Steve Wynn played solo for a bit before the band reformed with the help of a record deal with Enigma Records to make ''Ghost Stories'', released in 1988 and produced by Elliot Mazer of Neil Young fame. Background ''Out of the Grey'' was released in 1986 as the first studio album after the band was dropped from A&M Records due to disappointing sales after the release of the 1984 album ''This Is Not the New Dream Syndicate Album......Live!''. The band pondered its future and even retired temporarily, while lead singer and songwriter Steve Wynn (songwriter), Steve Wynn made a record with Dan Stuart (as Danny & Dusty).
