The Black Patti
Matilda Sissieretta Joyner Jones (January 5, 1868 or 1869 – June 24, 1933) was an American soprano. She sometimes was called "The Black Patti" in reference to Italian opera singer Adelina Patti. Jones' repertoire included grand opera, Comic opera, light opera, and popular music. Trained at the Providence Academy of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music, Jones made her New York City debut in 1888 at Steinway Hall, and four years later she performed at the White House for President Benjamin Harrison. She sang for four consecutive presidents and the House of Hanover, British royal family, and was met with international success. Besides the United States and the West Indies, Jones toured in South America, Australia, India, southern Africa, and Europe. ''Kaadhalan'' (; ) is the soundtrack to the 1994 Tamil film of the same name, directed by Shankar. The soundtrack, features 9 songs composed by A. R. Rahman and lyrics penned by Vaali, Vairamuthu, Shankar and Thirikudarasappa Kavirayar. The Choreographers were Sundaram – Mugur Sundar and Raju Sundaram. The Hindi version, ''Humse Hai Muqabala'', sold soundtrack album units in India. Background For the film's soundtrack and score, Shankar renewed his association with A. R. Rahman, after previously collaborating with him in ''Gentleman'' (1993). Shankar Mahadevan (born 3 March 1967) is an Indian singer and composer who is part of the Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy trio that writes music for Indian films. In 2023, he was awarded an honorary doctorate (''honoris causa'' degree) by Birmingham City University. Mount Patti
The Mount Patti Hill is a 1503 foot-tall (458 m) mountain and tourist attraction in Lokoja, Nigeria. It is famous for being the place where British journalist and writer Flora Louise Shaw (later Flora Lugard) gave Nigeria its name. The name (Nigeria) was coined by Flora Shaw in 1914 when looking at Lokoja from top of The Mount Patti. It came into her mind because of the view of the Niger River and Benue, 6 kilometers away from the Mount. In an essay that first appeared in ''The Times'' on 8 January 1897, Shaw suggested the name Nigeria for the British Protectorate on the Niger River. In her essay, She made the case for a shorter-term that would be used for the "agglomeration of pagan and Mohammedan States" to replace the official title, " Royal Niger Company Territories". She thought that the term "Royal Niger Company Territories" was too long to be used as a name of a Real Estate Property under the Trading Company in that part of Africa.
