Patrick Tolhoek
Patrick Tolhoek (born Yerseke, 26 June 1965) is a retired Dutch professional cyclist. Career In 1985, Tolhoek won the national road race for militaries. In 1989 and 1990, Tolhoek rode the Tour de France. During his first years as professional cyclist, he had problems with his left leg. At the end of 1991, he had to stop his professional career because of this. Three years later, after an operation, he was able to ride professionally again, this time on the mountainbike. In 1998, he became Dutch national mountainbike champion. In 2000, Tolhoek entered the Mountainbike event during the Olympic games, but did not finish. At the end of that year, Tolhoek ended his career. Personal life His father Ko Tolhoek was also a professional cyclist. His son Antwan Tolhoek is also a professional cyclist. Yerseke
Yerseke (, Zeelandic: ) is a village situated on the southern shore of the Oosterschelde (Eastern Scheldt) estuary in the Dutch province of Zeeland. A separate municipality until 1970, it today forms part of the municipality of Reimerswaal. As of 2010 Yerseke had a recorded population of 6,695 inhabitants, living in 2,680 households. The fishing village is well known for its aquaculture. Tourists visit the oyster pits, harbors and museum of the town and fishing industry, as well as the annual celebration of the mussel harvest (Mosseldag) in August. The village furthermore plays host to the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ). History The site of Yerseke may have been inhabited for more than a millennium, and possibly since before the early Middle Ages. Skeletal remains found in 1923 during an archaeological dig were dated to the Carolingian period (7th to 9th centuries). Tour De France
The Tour de France () is an annual men's multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. Like the other Grand Tours (the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España), it consists of 21 stages, each a day long, over the course of 23 days, coinciding with the Bastille Day holiday. It is the oldest of the Grand Tours and generally considered the most prestigious. The race was first organized in 1903 to increase sales for the newspaper '' L'Auto'' and is currently run by the Amaury Sport Organisation. Antwan Tolhoek (born 29 April 1994) is a Dutch cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Life and career Born in Yerseke, Tolhoek was named as part of the squad in the startlist for the 2017 Vuelta a España. In December 2017, he was suspended for 2 months by his team, for possession of sleeping pills during a pre-season training camp – violating the team's internal rules. In July 2018, he was named in the start list for the 2018 Tour de France. In May 2019, he was named in the startlist for the 2019 Giro d'Italia. His father Patrick Tolhoek was also a professional cyclist.
