Patrick Merrill
Patrick Merrill (born February 22, 1979) is a former Canadian professional lacrosse player for the Toronto Rock in the National Lacrosse League and of the Toronto Nationals in Major League Lacrosse. He is currently the Head Coach and General Manager of the San Diego Seals. Professional career Merrill was a first-round draft choice of the Toronto Rock in 2002, and after four seasons with the Rock, was chosen first overall by the Boston Blazers in the 2008 expansion draft. However, following the cancellation and subsequent reinstatement of the 2008 season, the Blazers, along with the Arizona Sting, announced that they would not participate in the 2008 season. A dispersal draft was held, and Merrill was chosen second overall by the Titans. Major Series Lacrosse
Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) is a Senior A box lacrosse league based in Ontario, Canada sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association. Most of the star players in the league play or have played in the National Lacrosse League. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the right to compete against the Western Lacrosse Association champion for the Mann Cup every September. The championship is hosted alternately between Ontario and British Columbia every year. Arizona Sting
The Arizona Sting was a member of the National Lacrosse League from 2004 to 2007. They played at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, from 2001 to 2003 as the Columbus Landsharks. On August 28, 2003, it was announced that the team was relocating to Glendale, Arizona. The team adopted the name Sting in November 2003 and began playing in the Glendale Arena (now Desert Diamond Arena). In 2005, the Sting defeated the 2004 NLL champion Calgary Roughnecks to win the franchise's first-ever West Division title. The Sting fell 19-13 to the East Division champion Toronto Rock in the league championships. On October 16, 2007, the NLL announced that the 2008 season had been cancelled due to the failure of the league and the Professional Lacrosse Players' Association to reach a new collective bargaining agreement. 2013 Toronto Rock Season
The Toronto Rock are a lacrosse team based in Toronto playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The 2013 season was the 16th in franchise history, and 15th as the Rock. After a strong 5-1 start to the season, the Rock went 5-5 the rest of the way, but it was still enough to clinch first place overall. In the division semi-finals, the Rock faced the western division's Minnesota Swarm who, because their record was better than that of the Buffalo Bandits, crossed over into the East division. 2012 Toronto Rock Season
The Toronto Rock are a lacrosse team based in Toronto playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The 2012 season was the 15th in franchise history, and 14th as the Rock. After the retirement of Bob Watson, the Rock needed to fill the starting goaltender spot for the first time in franchise history. In July, the Rock traded defender Kyle Ross to the Washington Stealth for Matt Roik, a 10-year NLL veteran. The Rock lost their first two games of the season, but then won four of their next five. Roik was named Defensive Player of the Week in week 5 and was also named to the Eastern All-Star team. But the team lost their next three games, including a 21–14 blowout to the Buffalo Bandits, and management felt a change needed to be made. The New York Titans are a lacrosse team based in New York City playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The 2008 season was the 2nd in franchise history. The Titans improved on their 4-12 last place finish from 2007 by tying for the best record in the league, though tiebreakers meant that the Titans actually finished 3rd in the east. They beat the Minnesota Swarm in the team's first ever playoff game to advance to the division finals against the Buffalo Bandits. 2007 Toronto Rock Season
The Toronto Rock are a lacrosse team based in Toronto, Ontario playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The 2007 season was the franchise's 11th season, and its 10th season as the Toronto Rock. After firing head coach and GM Terry Sanderson following the 2006 season, the Rock hired Glenn Clark, who played for eight seasons with the franchise, as their new head coach. Clark led the Rock to their worst record ever, and first season under .500. However, both the Philadelphia Wings and Chicago Shamrox finishing with the same 6–10 record, and the Rock sneaked into the playoffs by virtue of tiebreakers. The Toronto Rock are a lacrosse team based in Toronto playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The 2005 season was the 8th in franchise history and 7th as the Rock. The Rock continued its dynasty on top of the NLL standings, finishing first in its division for the seventh straight year. The Rock beat the Rochester Knighthawks in the division final and then hosted the Arizona Sting in the championship game.
