Patrick McGowan (Irish Politician)
Patrick McGowan (16 July 1926 – 3 October 1999) was a Fianna Fáil politician in Ireland. A farmer and potato merchant, he was an elected to Seanad Éireann from 1965 to 1981, and from 1987 to 1999. He was elected on the Agricultural Panel and served for 28 years making him one of Ireland's longest serving Seanad Éireann members. In 1970 he agreed to pay £3,900 including costs to a Donegal Businessman, Daniel Brolly, in a High Court case after he was accused of Adultery. County Donegal
County Donegal ( ; ga, Contae Dhún na nGall) is a county of Ireland in the province of Ulster and in the Northern and Western Region. It is named after the town of Donegal in the south of the county. It has also been known as County Tyrconnell (), after the historic territory of the same name, on which it was based. Donegal County Council is the local council and Lifford the county town. Seanad Éireann
Seanad Éireann (, ; " Senate of Ireland") is the upper house of the Oireachtas (the Irish legislature), which also comprises the President of Ireland and Dáil Éireann (the lower house). It is commonly called the Seanad or Senate and its members senators (''seanadóirí'' in Irish, singular: ''seanadóir''). Unlike Dáil Éireann, it is not directly elected but consists of a mixture of members chosen by various methods. Its powers are much weaker than those of the Dáil and it can only delay laws with which it disagrees, rather than veto them outright. It can introduce new legislation.
