Patrick Larkin (hurler)
Patrick Larkin (1866–1917) was an Irish hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Galway senior team. Born in Killimor, County Galway, Larkin first played competitive hurling as a teenager. He made his first impression on the hurling field at the age of seventeen when he organised various hurling games, drawn up under his own rules, in south-east Galway. Larkin captained Galway in the inaugural championship in 1887, however, he ended his inter-county career without an All-Ireland medal. As well as hurling at inter-county level, Larkin subsequently served as president and secretary of the Galway County Board. Kiltormer GAA
Kiltormer GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Clontuskert, Lawrencetown, County Galway, Lawrencetown and Kiltormer areas outside Ballinasloe, County Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Overview History Gaelic games in the Kiltormer area have been recorded as far back as 1897. Down through the years Clontuskert, Lawrencetown and Kiltormer affiliated separate teams, while Ganaveen and Tristaun also formed separate clubs. In 1969 a decision was finally made to bring the three areas together and form a club under one name. Kiltormer was chosen as the club name and the club colours were to be blue and white. Almost immediately, success followed with the winning of minor, under-21, and intermediate championships. The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. 1887 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1887 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the first staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. The championship began on 2 July 1887 and ended on 1 April 1888. Tipperary won the title following a 1-1 to 0-0 defeat of Galway in the final. Background The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), the governing body of Gaelic games in Ireland, had been formed in 1884, but for the first three years of its existence, its member clubs played only friendly matches and locally organised tournaments. In 1887, however, the existing county boards started to organise knock-out championships for the club teams within their own county. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
