Patricia Lesser Harbottle
Patricia Ann Lesser Harbottle (born August 13, 1933) is an American amateur golfer. As Pat Lesser, her wins include the 1953 Women's National Intercollegiate Golf Tournament and 1955 Women's Western Amateur. At major championships held by the LPGA, she had top four finishes at the 1951 U.S. Women's Open and 1953 Women's Western Open. Lesser was also tied for seventh at the 1955 Titleholders Championship. In United States Golf Association events, she was the winner of the 1950 U.S. Girls' Junior and 1955 U.S. Women's Amateur. Her team won the 1954 Curtis Cup and lost the 1956 Curtis Cup. Following her marriage, Harbottle won her third Pacific Northwest Golf Association Women's Amateur in 1965. She was tied for eighth at the 1984 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur. By 2016, Harbottle had 23 wins in Tacoma Country and Golf Club events. She joined the PNGA Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Washington Sports Hall of Fame during 1999. The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women was founded in 1971 to govern collegiate women's athletics and to administer national championships. The 10th Curtis Cup Match was played on August 8 and 9, 1958 at the Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton, Massachusetts. The match was tied with both team having 4 points, and so the British Isles retained the trophy as the previous winner. The Titleholders Championship was a women's golf tournament played from in 1937 to 1966 and again in 1972. It was later designated a major championship by the LPGA Tour. History The Titleholders Championship was founded in 1937. Like the Masters Tournament for men, which began a few years earlier, it was played in Augusta, Georgia, but at Augusta Country Club, not at the adjacent Augusta National Golf Club. The winners of various amateur and professional events were invited to take part, although most of the competitors were amateurs. There were very few women professionals at the time and most earned their living as club or teaching professionals. The Canadian Women's Amateur is Canada's annual national amateur golf tournament for women. It is open to women from all countries and is played at a different course each year. History The first championship was held from October 14 to 17, 1901, at Royal Montreal Golf Club. The 50 or so entries played 18 holes of stroke play on the first afternoon, after which the leading eight ladies played three rounds of 18-hole match play on the following three days. Local member Lily Young had the best score on the first day, 99. Scorers of 107 and better reached the quarter-finals. Consolation events were organised for those not in the leading eight.
