Pat Nutting
Patricia Anne Pryce (née Nutting; born 4 January 1942) is an English former hurdler who competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Biography Nutting finished second behind Carole Quinton in the 80 metres hurdles event at the 1958 WAAA Championships and then third behind Mary Bignal the following year at the 1959 WAAA Championships and third behind Quinton in 1960. At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, she represented Great Britain in the 80 metres hurdles event. A WAAA title eluded her until she became the national 200 metres hurdles champion after winning the British WAAA Championships title at the 1961 WAAA Championships. The longer distance suited her and she retained the title at the 1962 WAAA Championships. Later that year, Nutting represented England in the 80 metres hurdles and long jump at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, Western Australia. Mary Rand
Mary Denise Rand, Member of the Order of the British Empire, MBE (née Bignal; born 10 February 1940) is a British former track and field athlete. She won the long jump at the 1964 Summer Olympics by breaking the world record, the first British female to win an Olympic gold medal in track and field. Until Emma Finucane in 2024 Summer Olympics, 2024, she was the only British female athlete to win three medals in a single Games. Early life Mary Rand is the daughter of Eric and Hilda Bignal. She was born and grew up in Wells, Somerset, Wells, Somerset, England. At 16, Millfield School offered her an athletics scholarship. She excelled in all sports and won All-England Schools' titles. Athletes (track And Field) At The 1960 Summer Olympics
An athlete is most commonly a person who competes in one or more sports involving physical strength, speed, power, or endurance. Sometimes, the word "athlete" is used to refer specifically to sport of athletics competitors, i.e. including track and field and marathon runners but excluding e.g. swimmers, footballers or basketball players. However, in other contexts (mainly in the United States) it is used to refer to all athletics (physical culture) participants of any sport. 1966 British Empire And Commonwealth Games
The 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games were held in Kingston, Jamaica, from 4 to 13 August 1966. This was the first time that the Games had been held outside the so-called White Dominions.
