Pat Heffernan
Pat Heffernan (born 2 January 1970 in Kilfinane, County Limerick, Ireland) is an Irish hurling selector and former player. He is a former selector with the Limerick senior hurling team. He is currently manager of Mullinahone Senior Hurling team and teaches geography at the Patrician Academy Mallow Secondary School. An effective forward, Heffernan enjoyed a reasonably successful playing career at club level with Blackrock, UCC and Mallow and at inter-county level with Limerick. He was a key member of the latter team during the 1990s and collected one Munster title. In retirement from playing Heffernan has become involved in team management. He gained early experience at club level with Kilmallock, Murroe-Boher, Bride Rovers and with his own Blackrock club. He took charge of the Kerry senior hurling team between 2007 and 2008, while later serving as a selector with the Limerick intermediate team. The Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Limerick GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Limerick. The county board is also responsible for the Limerick county teams. The county hurling team have the fourth highest total of All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship (SHC) titles, behind Kilkenny, Cork and Tipperary. Castlelyons
Castlelyons () is a small village in the east of County Cork, Ireland. It is also a civil parish in the barony of Barrymore. The name is derived from a stronghold of the Uí Liatháin - an early medieval kingdom. It is situated south of Fermoy. In the 2022 census the village recorded a population of 428. Castlelyons is part of the Dáil constituency of Cork East. Christy Ring Cup
The Christy Ring Cup () is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The cup forms the third-tier of Hurling for senior county teams (the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship is the first-tier trophy). It is contested by the six county teams ranked 18–23 in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Each year, the champions of the Christy Ring Cup are promoted to the Joe McDonagh Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup. The Carlow County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Carlow GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Carlow and the Carlow county teams. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into five divisions, with seven teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Pad Joe Whelahan
Patrick Joseph Whelahan (born 1945), better known as Pad Joe Whelahan, is an Irish hurling manager and former player. He played hurling with his local club St Rynagh's and with the Offaly senior inter-county team in the 1960s and 1970s. Whelahan later served as manager of the Offaly and Limerick senior inter-county teams. He has also had a very successful career as manager of club sides Birr and Toomevara. Early and private life Pad Joe Whelahan was born in Banagher, County Offaly in 1945. He was educated locally and later settled in Birr where he runs his own pub. Whelahan's sons – Brian, Simon and Barry – would all experience success with Birr and with Offaly on the inter-county scene. Liam MacCarthy Cup
The Liam MacCarthy Cup () is a trophy awarded annually by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) to the team that wins the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Based on the design of a medieval drinking vessel, the trophy was first awarded in 1923 to the winners of the (delayed) 1921 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final. The original 1920s trophy was retired in the 1990s, with a new identical trophy awarded annually since 1992. The original trophy is on permanent display in the GAA Museum at Croke Park in Dublin. Johnny Dooley
Johnny Dooley (born 7 October 1971 in Clareen, County Offaly) is an Irish former hurling manager and player. He played hurling with his local club Clareen GAA and was a member of the Offaly senior inter-county team from 1991 until 2002. Dooley served as manager of the Westmeath senior inter-county team from 2007 until 2008. Early life Johnny Dooley was born just outside Clareen, County Offaly in 1971. He was born into a family that was steeped in hurling history. His father's uncle, Tom Dooley, as well as his mother's father and uncle had all played with Offaly in the junior All-Ireland finals in 1929 and 1923 respectively.
