Passport (band)
Passport is a German jazz ensemble led by saxophonist Klaus Doldinger. Passport was formed in 1971 as a jazz fusion group, similar to Weather Report. The ensemble's first recording was issued in 1971. The band's membership has had numerous changes over the years. The lineup that brought them to European and international prominence in the mid 1970s consisted of Doldinger, drummer Curt Cress, guitarist/bassist Wolfgang Schmid and keyboardist Kristian Schultze. Geldern
Geldern (; , , ; archaic English: ''Guelder(s)'') is a city in the States of Germany, federal German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is part of the Kleve (district), district of Kleve, which is part of the Düsseldorf (region), Düsseldorf Regierungsbezirk, administrative region. The nearby Province of the Netherlands, Dutch province of Gelderland is named after this city. Geography Location Geldern lies in the plains of the lower, northern Rhineland, west of the Rhine. Udo Lindenberg
Udo Lindenberg (born 17 May 1946) is a German singer, composer, and painter. Career Lindenberg started his musical career as a drummer. In 1969, he founded his first band Free Orbit, and also appeared as a studio and guest musician (with Michael Naura, Knut Kiesewetter). In 1970, he collaborated as a drummer with jazz saxophonist Klaus Doldinger in Munich. In 1971 Passport, a band founded by Doldinger, released its first album, with Lindenberg on drums. He also played drums for the theme music for the German TV series ''Tatort''. The first LP by the jazz rock group Emergency was released in 1971, but met with little commercial success. The LP ''Lindenberg'' (also 1971, sung in English, with Steffi Stephan on bass) was likewise unsuccessful. ''Passport'' is the debut studio album by German jazz fusion band Passport. Released by Atlantic Records in 1971, the album was produced by Klaus Doldinger. The album is sometimes referred to as ''Doldinger''. Background Klaus Doldinger, having already been an established musician as a saxophonist and prolific composer in West Germany, had released rock-influenced albums with his group Doldinger's Motherhood, between 1969 and 1970 with drummers Udo Lindenberg, who sang for their albums, and Keith Forsey. Doldinger then renamed Doldinger's Motherhood to Passport the following year, and, with the assistance of Siegfried "Siggi" Loch, made a record deal with Kinney Music (later known as WEA Records) under the Atlantic Records label. Weather Report
Weather Report was an American jazz fusion band active from 1970 to 1986. The band was founded in 1970 by Austrian keyboardist Joe Zawinul, American saxophonist Wayne Shorter, Czech bassist Miroslav Vitouš, American drummer Alphonse Mouzon as well as American percussionists Don Alias and Barbara Burton. The band was initially co-led by Zawinul and Shorter but as the 1970s progressed, Zawinul became the primary composer and creative director of the group. Other prominent members throughout the band’s history included bassists Jaco Pastorius, Alphonso Johnson and Victor Bailey (musician), Victor Bailey, drummers Chester Thompson and Peter Erskine, and percussionists Airto Moreira and Alex Acuña. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Pete York
Peter York (born 15 August 1942 in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England) is an English rock drummer who has been performing since the 1960s. Biography Born in Middlesbrough but growing up in Redcar, York attended the Nottingham High School and learnt to play the trumpet and snare drum in a school band, he also attended Trent College. Upon leaving school he embarked on a commercial apprenticeship. He was one of the original members of the Spencer Davis Group, along with Spencer Davis and the brothers Steve and Muff Winwood. York stayed with the band until 1969. He left the Spencer Davis Group to form Hardin and York with Eddie Hardin. York was a member of Eric Clapton's Powerhouse—a short-lived blues band in 1966. Vladyslav Sendecki, known as Vladislav Sendecki, (born 1955 in Gorlice) is a Polish jazz pianist. In Polish, his name is spelled Władysław Sendecki. Since 1996 he has been permanently associated with the NDR Big Band as a composer and pianist. Sendecki is one of the top five pianists in the world according to the ''New York Village Voice''.
