Pasquale Liotta Cristaldi
Pasquale Liotta Cristaldi (1850-1909) was an Italian painter. Biography He was born and resided in Catania. He trained in Naples under Domenico Morelli. He painted historical, genre, and landscape paintings. Among the historical paintings, was one on the subject of ''Congiura degli esuli siciliani in Rome'' (''Conspiracy of the Sicilian exiles in Rome''), against Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, which he exhibited in Naples in 1877. At Turin he exhibited a painting ''Artista in erba''. At Milan, in 1881, he exhibited a ''Studio dal vero (Study from nature)'', and at Rome, in 1883, ''L'abbandonata'' (''The Abandoned''). At the 1884 Mostra di Turin he exhibited ''Vendetta''; at 1887 in Venice, he exhibited a ''Quartetto''. He also painted ''Nightmare of Elizabeth I featuring a beheaded Mary, Queen of Scots, Mary Stuart''. He was a colleague and friend of Calcedonio Reina. Calcedonio Reina
Calcedonio Reina (4 February 1843, in Catania, Sicily – 9 November 1911, in Catania) was an Italian painter and poet. He is described as having a melancholic and neurasthenic temperament in life and art. Biography His father was a prominent surgeon in Sicily who wanted his son to follow him into a medical career. However, Calcedonio moved to Naples in 1864 and soon found himself making copies of the classic sculptures in the Capodimonte Museum. He was accepted as a pupil by the Institute of Fine Arts under Domenico Morelli. Soon afterwards he travelled to Florence and Rome, prolifically painting interiors and vedute of ruins and making drawings of statues and busts. His paintings include ''Il Cieco pompeiano'' (''The Blind Man in Pompeii''); ''Suor Clara sedotta dal demonio'' (''Sister Clara Seduced by a Demon''); and ''Una scena dell'89'' (''A Scene from 1889'').
