Pascual Racuyal
Pascual B. Racuyal (Tinago, Cebu City, 1911 – Bulacan, 2004) was a Filipino eccentric and aspirant for the Philippine presidency, whose persistent attempts at the presidency earned him folk status. Racuyal sought the presidency in every Philippine presidential election beginning in 1935 against Manuel L. Quezon and Emilio Aguinaldo until 1986 (against Ferdinand Marcos and Corazon Aquino). Life and attempted political career He grew up in Barangay Tinago in Cebu City and eventually, became a mechanic at an early age. In the Philippines, a nuisance candidate is an official term for an aspirant candidate for a public office whose certificate of candidacy was not accepted by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) either ''motu proprio'' by the election body itself or upon a verified petition of an interested party. 1969 Philippine Presidential Election
The 1969 Philippine presidential and vice presidential elections were held on November 11, 1969. Incumbent President Ferdinand Marcos won a second full term as President of the Philippines. Marcos was the last president in the entire electoral history of the Philippines who ran for and won a second term. His running mate, incumbent Vice President Fernando Lopez, was also elected to a third full term as Vice President of the Philippines. A total of twelve candidates ran for president, but ten of those got less than 0.01% of the vote. Constitutionally barred for a third term, Marcos sought to amend the constitution to allow him to do so. A constitutional convention was elected in 1970 for this purpose. Growing unrest led to Marcos declaring martial law in 1972. Months later, the constitutional convention passed a new constitution, which was subsequently ratified in a plebiscite in 1973. 1935 Philippine Presidential Election
The 1935 Philippine presidential and vice presidential elections were held on September 16, 1935. This was the first election since the enactment of the Tydings–McDuffie Act, a law that paved the way for a transitory government, as well as the first nationwide at-large election ever held in the Philippines. Senate President Manuel Luis Quezon won a lopsided victory against former President Emilio Aguinaldo. His election victory was largely due to the weak political machinations of his rivals. Another losing contender was Gregorio Aglipay, founder and supreme bishop of the ''Iglesia Filipina Indepediente'' (Philippine Independent Church). Pascual Racuyal, a mechanic by profession, also ran for president as an independent. Arsenio Lacson
Arsenio Hilario Sison Lacson Sr. (December 26, 1912 – April 15, 1962) was a Filipino journalist and politician who gained widespread attention as mayor of Manila from 1952 to 1962. An active executive likened by ''Time'' and ''The New York Times'' to New York's Fiorello La Guardia, he was the first Manila mayor to be reelected to three terms. Nicknamed "Arsenic" and described as "a good man with a bad mouth", Lacson's fiery temperament became a trademark of his political and broadcasting career.
