Part Company
"Part Company" is a song by the Australian alternative rock band The Go-Betweens that was released as the first single from their third album '' Spring Hill Fair''. The single was issued in August 1984 by Sire Records with "Just a King in Mirrors" as the B-side. In the UK a 12" single was also released on Sire. The single failed to make an impact on the charts. In November 1983 the band recorded a number of demos commissioned by Rough Trade for their third album, at Pathway Studios, with producer John Brand. Note: nlineversion has limited functionality. "Newton Told Me" was re-recorded after originally being considered as a B-side for " Man O'Sand to Girl O'Sea" and recorded by the band in May 1983. The Go-Betweens
The Go-Betweens were an Australian indie rock band formed in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1977. The band was co-founded and led by singer-songwriters and guitarists Robert Forster (musician), Robert Forster and Grant McLennan, who were its only constant members throughout its existence. Drummer Lindy Morrison joined the band in 1980, and its lineup would later expand to include bass guitarist Robert Vickers and multi-instrumentalist Amanda Brown (musician), Amanda Brown. Vickers was replaced by John Willsteed in 1987, and the quintet lineup remained in place until the band split two years later. Forster and McLennan reformed the band in 2000 with a new lineup that did not include any previous personnel aside from them. McLennan died on 6 May 2006 of a heart attack and the Go-Betweens disbanded again. In 2010, a toll bridge in their native Brisbane was renamed the Go Between Bridge after them. Robert Vickers
Robert Vickers (born 25 November 1958) is an Australian musician, who is known as the bass guitarist of the Go-Betweens. Vickers grew up in Brisbane, Australia, and played in various local bands. He made his first record in 1978 as a member of the Numbers, who later changed their name to the Riptides. In 1979, he left Brisbane to live in New York City where he joined the Colors. The Colors were managed by Hilly Kristal, owner of rock club CBGB, and produced by Blondie drummer Clem Burke. During this time he briefly returned to Brisbane to act in a film titled ''Heather's Gloves'', directed by Robin Gold and written by Grant McLennan of the Go-Betweens. In January 1983, Vickers left New York and the Colors to join the Go-Betweens. He recorded three albums with the band before returning to New York in 1988.
