Parricides
Parricide is the deliberate killing of one's own parent, spouse, child, or other close relative. However, the term is sometimes used more generally to refer to the intentional killing of a near relative. It is an umbrella term that can be used to refer to acts of matricide, the deliberate killing of one's own mother and patricide, the deliberate killing of one's own father. The term parricide is also used to refer to many familicides (i.e., family annihilations wherein at least one parent is murdered along with other family members). Societies consider parricide a serious crime and parricide offenders are subject to criminal prosecution under the homicide laws which are established in places (i.e., countries, states etc.) in which parricides occur. In most countries, an adult who is convicted of parricide faces a long-term prison sentence, a permanent prison sentence, or even a death sentence. Matricide (or maternal homicide) is the act of killing one's own mother. Thomas Bartlett Whitaker
Thomas Bartlett Whitaker (born December 31, 1979) is an American convicted under the Texas law of parties of murdering two family members as a 23-year-old. Whitaker was convicted and sentenced to death in March 2007 for the December 10, 2003 murders of his mother and 19-year-old brother. He spent years on death row at the Polunsky Unit near Livingston, Texas, before the commutation of his death sentence. Whitaker's father, who Whitaker had also attempted to have murdered, had pleaded with Governor Greg Abbott for the commutation of Whitaker's sentence, stating that by executing his son, the state was simply making him a victim once again. Chandler Halderson
Chandler Michael Halderson (born March 15, 1998) is an American criminal who murdered and dismembered his parents, Bart and Krista Halderson, in Dane County, Wisconsin, in July 2021. He reported both of his parents missing on July 7, and while being questioned on July 8, authorities found a mutilated torso with several bullet wounds in the woods near a home Chandler was reported to have visited. The remains were determined to be those of Bart Halderson. A week later on July 14, a pair of dismembered legs, identified as Krista Halderson, were found near the Wisconsin River, a spot Chandler often visited. Murders Of Joel And Lisa Guy
On November 26, 2016, 61-year-old Joel Guy Sr. and 55-year-old Lisa Guy were murdered and dismembered by their son, 28-year-old Joel Michael Guy Jr., in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. Guy Jr. stabbed his father at least 42 times; his mother at least 31 times. He was convicted of both murders in October 2020 and received a sentence of life imprisonment. Guy Jr.'s parents were soon to retire and would stop providing money to their son; he was to receive a $500,000 life insurance policy if both were dead or missing. Broken Arrow Killings
The Broken Arrow murders, otherwise known as the Bever family massacre, were a familicide and mass stabbing that occurred on July 22, 2015, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The perpetrators, Robert and Michael Bever, murdered their parents and 3 siblings. It was the deadliest crime and mass murder in the city of Broken Arrow, until a murder-suicide in October 2022 which killed 8 people. Daniel Bever (age 12) called 9-1-1, saving the lives of his sisters Autumn (2) and Crystal (13) by alerting authorities. During the call, the assailants ambushed Daniel in his room and he was subsequently murdered. Murder Of Glory Chau And Moon Siu
Glory Chau Wing-ki (aged 65) and Moon Siu Yuet-yee (aged 63) were a couple murdered in the Kok Cheung section of Tai Kok Tsui, Hong Kong, presumably on 1 March 2013. Their youngest son, Henry Chau Hoi-leung (29 at the time of the murder) and his friend Angus Tse Chun-kei (35 at the time of the murder), were indicted for the murder, which they initially denied being involved in. During Chau and Tse's interviews with the police, they admitted that after the murder, they chopped up the parents' dead bodies and cooked the remains with salt to make them look "like barbecue pork." Dellen Millard (born August 30, 1985) and Mark Smich (born August 13, 1987) are two Canadian convicted murderers from Toronto, Ontario, who together murdered Laura Babcock and Tim Bosma in separate killings in July 2012 and May 2013 respectively.
