Park Seung-cheol
Park Seung-cheol (5 January 1940 – 1 June 2014) was a South Korean physician and specialist in infectious diseases. Early life Park was the first son of Korean independence activist and Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea official Park Myeong-ryeol, who lived in exile in China during Japanese colonial rule. After World War II, the family returned to Korea, where the young Park was raised. When the Korean War broke out, he fled with his family to his father's hometown of Gwangcheon-eup, in Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do near the city of Gongju. He attended Gwangcheon Elementary School before returning to Seoul, where he studied at Kyungbock High School. He graduated from Seoul National University's Department of Medicine in 1965 and went on to earn Masters and Ph.D. degrees in internal medicine from the same university. Samsung Medical Center (SMC) is a tertiary hospital located in Irwon-Dong of Gangnam-Gu, Seoul, South Korea. SMC is composed of Samsung Seoul Hospital, Kangbook Samsung Hospital, Samsung Changwon Hospital, and Samsung Life Sciences Research Center. SMC was founded on November 9, 1994. Roh Moo-hyun (; ; 1 September 1946 – 23 May 2009) was a South Korean politician and lawyer who served as the ninth president of South Korea between 2003 and 2008. Roh's pre-presidential political career was focused on human rights advocacy for student activists in South Korea. His electoral career later expanded to a focus on overcoming regionalism in South Korean politics, culminating in his election to the presidency. He achieved a large following among younger internet users, which aided his success in the presidential election.
