Park Sangwoo
Park Sangwoo (; born July 2, 1958) is a South Korean writer. He made his literary debut in 1988 when his novella ''Seureojiji anneun bit'' (스러지지 않는 빛 A Light That Doesn't Fade Out) won the Munye Joongang Literary Award for Best First Novel. His works include the short story collection ''Shagarui maeure naerineun nun'' (샤갈의 마을에 내리는 눈 The Snow Falling on Chagall's Village) and the novels ''Hotel Kaeliponia'' (호텔 캘리포니아 Hotel California), ''Cheongchunui dongjjok'' (청춘의 동쪽 East of Youth), and ''Kkamaquitte geurimja'' (까마귀떼 그림자 Shadows Cast by a Murder of Crows). In 1999 he received the 23rd Yi Sang Literary Award for his short story “''Nae maeumui oktapbang''” (내 마음의 옥탑방 The Attic of My Heart). The Yi Sang Literary Award (이상문학상) is a South Korean literary award. It is one of South Korea's most prestigious literary awards, named after Yi Sang, an innovative writer in modern Korean literature. The Yi Sang Literary Award was established in 1977. Gwangju, Gyeonggi
Gwangju () is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, a suburb southeast of Seoul. The city is not to be confused with the much larger Gwangju Metropolitan City, former capital of South Jeolla Province, South Korea. History ''Bunwon-ri'' in Gwangju took an important role of ceramic production during the Kingdom of Joseon. There had official kilns and produced superb quality of white porcelains for use at the royal court and to export to China. Pocheon
Pocheon () is an inland city in the far northeastern region of Gyeonggi province in South Korea. It covers 2 with a population of 160,176 people, according to the 2008 census. Pocheon lies between Seoul and the mountainous northwestern areas of Gangwon province. Chung-Ang University (CAU; ) is a private research university in Seoul, South Korea. It is widely regarded as one of the best universities in South Korea. Gwangju Uprising
The Gwangju Uprising was a popular uprising in the city of Gwangju, South Korea, from May 18 to May 27, 1980, which pitted local, armed citizens against soldiers and police of the South Korean government. The event is sometimes called 5·18 (May 18; ), in reference to the date the movement began. The uprising is also known as the Gwangju Democratization Struggle (), the Gwangju Massacre, the May 18 Democratic Uprising, or the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement (). The uprising began after local Chonnam University students who were demonstrating against the martial law government were fired upon, killed, raped, and beaten by government troops. Some Gwangju citizens took up arms, raiding local police stations and armouries, and were able to take control of large sections of the city before soldiers re-entered the city and put down the uprising. Short Story Cycle
A short story cycle (sometimes referred to as a story sequence or composite novel) is a collection of short stories in which the narratives are specifically composed and arranged with the goal of creating an enhanced or different experience when reading the group as a whole as opposed to its individual parts. Short story cycles are different from novels because the parts that would make up the chapters can all stand alone as short stories, each individually containing a beginning, middle and conclusion. When read as a group there is a tension created between the ideas of the individual stories, often showing changes that have occurred over time or highlighting the conflict between two opposing concepts or thoughts.
