Park Plaza Condominiums
Park Plaza Condominiums is a residential high-rise building in Albuquerque, New Mexico. At in height it is the 15th-tallest building in the city, as well as the tallest residential building in New Mexico. The 14-story tower originally consisted of rental units but was converted to condominiums in 1979. It is located one block south of Central Avenue, just west of Downtown. Park Plaza was constructed in 1963–4 at a cost of $2.5 million. With 144 one- and two-bedroom luxury apartments, it was the largest apartment complex in Albuquerque at the time and was described in a contemporary advertisement as "the Southwest's most beautiful and modern apartment building". Following the conversion to condos, many of the units have been renovated by their owners or combined to form larger units. Central Avenue (Albuquerque)
Central Avenue is a major east–west street in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which historically served as the city's main thoroughfare and principal axis of development. It runs through many of Albuquerque's oldest neighborhoods, including Downtown, Old Town, Nob Hill, and the University of New Mexico area. Central Avenue was part of U.S. Route 66 from 1937 until the highway's decommissioning in 1985 and also forms one axis of Albuquerque's house numbering system. It was also signed as Business Loop 40 until the early 1990s when ownership of Central Avenue was transferred from the New Mexico State Highway Department to the City of Albuquerque. Downtown Albuquerque is the central business district of Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. It is where a significant number of the city's highrise buildings are located, and is the center of government and business for the Greater Albuquerque metropolitan region. Downtown is roughly defined as the central area bordered by Marble Avenue to the North, Coal Avenue to the South, Seventh and Tenth Streets to the West, and the Amtrak and New Mexico Rail Runner Express railroad tracks to the East. A lanai or lānai is a type of roofed, open-sided veranda, patio, or porch originating in Hawaii. Many homes, apartment buildings, hotels and restaurants in Hawaii are built with one or more lānais. In Hawaii, the term's use has grown colloquially to encompass any sort of outdoor living area connected to or adjacent to an interior space—whether roofed or not—including apartment and hotel balconies.
