''Parevander xanthomelas'' is a species of beetle in the family Cerambycidae. It was described by Félix Édouard Guérin-Méneville in 1844, and has been classified in the genus ''Parevander'' since the circumscription of that genus by Per Olof Christopher Aurivillius in 1912. Range Its type locality was described as "the interior of Mexico"; Auguste Sallé and Edward Palmer later obtained specimens in Izúcar, Puebla and Monclova, Coahuila, respectively. It's also been observed in the state of Jalisco in both San Buenaventura and in Chamela. as well as in the states of Chiapas, Morelos, Guerrero, and Oaxaca. Earle Gorton Linsley reported the species was "rather common in Southern and Central Mexico." In Guatemala, it was found in Morazán, El Progreso by George Charles Champion. Per Olof Christopher Aurivillius (15 January 1843 – 20 July 1928) was a Swedish entomologist. Life Christopher Aurivillius was born at Forsa, Sweden. He was the director of the Natural History Museum in Stockholm and he specialised in Coleoptera and Lepidoptera. He was, for a long time, the secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science . His brother was the zoologist Carl Wilhelm Samuel Aurivillius (1854–1899) and his son the zoologist Sven Magnus Aurivillius (1892–1928). The longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae), also known as long-horned or longicorns, are a large family of beetles, with over 35,000 species described. Most species are characterized by extremely long antennae, which are often as long as or longer than the beetle's body. Henry Walter Bates (8 February 1825, in Leicester – 16 February 1892, in London) was an English naturalist and explorer who gave the first scientific account of mimicry in animals. He was most famous for his expedition to the rainforests of the Amazon with Alfred Russel Wallace, starting in 1848. Wallace returned in 1852, but lost his collection on the return voyage when his ship caught fire. When Bates arrived home in 1859 after a full eleven years, he had sent back over 14,712 species (mostly of insects) of which 8,000 were (according to Bates, but see Van Wyhe) new to science.
