''Parade in the Opernplatz in Berlin'' (German: ''Parade auf dem Opernplatz in Berlin'') is an 1830 history painting by the German artist Franz Krüger. It shows a parade on the Unter den Linden in Berlin in 1817. It portrays the Sixth Brandenburg Cuirassiers parading for Grand Duke Nicholas of Russia. Nicholas, later Tsar of Russia, was in the Prussian capital to marry Princess Charlotte. Her father Frederick William III can be seen by the Neue Wache. For many years it hung at the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg, before being gifted to Germany before the First World War. Franz Krüger
Franz Krüger (10 September 1797, in Großbadegast, Köthen, Anhalt – 21 January 1857, in Berlin), known as Pferde-Krüger ("Horse-Krüger"), was a German (Prussian) painter and lithographer. He was best known for his romantic and lively portraits and pictures of horses, which made him the most in demand military and portrait painter in Berlin. His paintings of military parades and hundreds of portraits led to him painting many of the "well to do" of the city. Life Krüger was the son of a nobleman, and his friendship with the ornithologist Johann Friedrich Naumann from the neighbouring town of Ziebigk led him into animal painting. During his school days in Dessau, he came into contact with the landscape painter . Winter Palace
The Winter Palace is a palace in Saint Petersburg that served as the official residence of the House of Romanov, previous emperors, from 1732 to 1917. The palace and its precincts now house the Hermitage Museum. The floor area is 233,345 square metres (it has been calculated that the palace contains 1,886 doors, 1,945 windows, 1,500 rooms and 117 staircases). The total area of the Winter Palace is 14.2 hectares.
