Pappanji
Pappanji (, also spelled as Pappaanji, Papanji or Papanhi) is an effigy of an old man, prepared as part of the New Year celebrations in Fort Kochi, Kerala. It is prepared in the form of an old man as a symbol of the passing year. With Pappanji being burned at midnight on the last day of December, the concept is that the year is over. Although thought to have originated from the remnants of the Christmas and New Year celebrations of the Portuguese India, Portuguese, it is now considered a secular festival. In many parts of Kerala, Santa Claus is sometimes referred locally as ''Christmas Pappanji''. But Pappanji has nothing to do with Santa Claus. Zozobra
Zozobra (also known as Old Man Gloom and sometimes branded as Will Shuster's Zozobra) is a giant marionette effigy constructed of wood, wire and cotton cloth that is built and burned on the Friday of Labor Day weekend prior to the annual Fiestas de Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States. It stands high. Burnt articles The name is taken from the Spanish word zozobra referring to a strong feeling of anxiety or worries, and as its name suggests, the effigy embodies gloom and anxiety; by burning it, people destroy the worries and troubles of the previous year in the flames. Cochin Carnival
Cochin Carnival is an entertainment event held every year in the last week of December at Fort Kochi in the city of Kochi, Kerala. This event is held mostly during the last two weeks of December and finally ends on 1 January. It is officially inaugurated with hoisting the Indian national flag at the Vasco da Gama Square. The main highlight of the carnival is the massive procession on the New Year's Day, led by elephants in ornamental trappings. North Indian dances are a part of the procession. It is a combination of different cultures like Portuguese, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalee, Kannada, Arab, Dutch, and Anglo Indian culture. Many competitions like beach bike race, beach football, wrestling, boxing, cycle race, bullet race, kayaking, swimming and marathon races are held. Burning Of Judas
The burning of Judas is an Easter-time ritual that originated in European Christians, Christian communities where an effigy of Judas Iscariot is burned. Other related mistreatment of Judas effigies include hanging, flogging, and exploding with fireworks. Cherai Beach
Cherai Beach is located in Cherai on the northern side of Vypin Island, a suburb of the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. One of the most visited beaches in the state, it is situated around 25 km (15 mi) from downtown Kochi and 20 km (12 mi) from Cochin International Airport. Vypin
Vypin (, Cochin Portuguese: Isla Santa) is one of the group of islands that form part of the city of Kochi, in the Indian state of Kerala. Vypin forms a barrier island which lies between the Arabian Sea in the west and the Cochin backwaters (Kochi Backwaters) formed by the various distributaries of Periyar river, in the east.
