Papallacta
Papallacta is a small village at an altitude of in Napo Province, Ecuador. The village is located off the Eastern Cordilleras, on the road from Quito into the Amazon rainforest. It is known for its hot springs. How to reach The drive from Quito to Papallacta passes through several towns and villages before ascending to a pass at an elevation of over 4,000 meters. From here, mountains and glaciers are visible. Descending from the high altitude pass to Papallacta, the ecosystem shifts from alpine to tropical forests. Several hot springs are located in Papallacta. Lake Papallacta and its surrounding watershed previously provided much of the drinking water for Quito. This changed in 2003 after landslides in the region. The close proximity of the water pipeline from the lake and oil pipelines from the Amazon rainforests led to water contamination after oil leak. Antisana
Antisana is a stratovolcano of the northern Andes, in Ecuador. It is the fourth highest volcano in Ecuador, at , and is located SE of the capital city of Quito. Antisana presents one of the most challenging technical climbs in the Ecuadorian Andes. Napo Province
Napo () is a province in Ecuador. Its capital is Tena. The province contains the Napo River. The province is low developed without much industrial presence. The thick rainforest is home to many natives that remain isolated by preference, descendants of those who fled the Spanish invasion in the Andes, and the Incas years before. In 2000, the province was the sole remaining majority-indigenous province of Ecuador, with 56.3% of the province either claiming indigenous identity or speaking an indigenous language. This province is one of the many located in Ecuador's section of the Amazon Rainforest.
