Tony Esposito (musician)
Antonio "Tony" Esposito (born 15 July 1950) is an Italian singer, songwriter and musician. Career Esposito was born in Naples. He started playing percussions in his teenage years. In the early 1970s, he played sessions and recorded with musicians such as Alan Sorrenti, Don Cherry, Don Moye, Gato Barbieri, Eumir Deodato, Brian Auger, Gilberto Gil and Pino Daniele. In 1975 he recorded his first solo album, ''Rosso napoletano'', in collaboration with Paul Buckmaster. Esposito is mostly well known for his 1984 hit single " Kalimba de Luna" from his album ''Il grande esploratore''. After winning the Un disco per l'estate music festival, it charted in Italy and Switzerland, and a cover by Boney M reached No. 17 in Germany. Frank Farian
Franz Reuther (18 July 1941 – 23 January 2024), known professionally as Frank Farian, was a German record producer and singer who founded the 1970s disco-pop group Boney M., the pop band No Mercy, and the pop band Milli Vanilli. He frequently created vocal groups in which the publicised members merely lip-synced to songs sung by session performers. Farian owned the record label MCI and several subsidiaries. Early life Farian was born in Kirn, Germany, on 18 July 1941. He and two siblings were raised by his mother, because his father was killed in World War II before his birth. He trained as a cook before discovering rock and roll, renaming himself Frank Farian, and forming a band called Frankie Boys Schatten. Elizabeth Rebecca Pemberton-Mitchell (born 12 July 1952) is a British singer, best known as one of the original singers of the 1970s disco and reggae band Boney M. Mitchell now lives in Reading, UK. Early life Mitchell was born in the parish of Clarendon, British Jamaica. At the age of eleven, Mitchell and her family emigrated to London, England, in 1963; her childhood home was in the district of Harlesden. By the end of the decade, she auditioned for ''Hair'' and eventually moved to West Berlin to join the German cast where she replaced Donna Summer. After ''Hair'', Mitchell joined the Les Humphries Singers for a few years and represented West Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest with the Ralph Siegel title "Sing Sang Song". "Ma Baker" is a song by disco group Boney M., released as a single in 1977. It was the first single of their second album '' Love for Sale'' and their third consecutive chart-topper in (West) Germany. The song was a huge success in Europe and Latin America, topping the charts in many countries there. It was a number 2 hit in the UK (only surpassed by Donna Summer's " I Feel Love"). In the US, the song only reached number 96. Composition and structure Frank Farian's assistant Hans-Jörg Mayer discovered a popular Tunisian folkloric song, " Sidi Mansour" while on holiday, and rewrote the song into a disco track. Boney M. is a German reggae, funk and disco music group founded in 1974. It achieved popularity during the disco era in the second half of the 1970s.
