Paolo Emilio Landi
Paolo Emilio Landi is an Italian theatrical director, journalist, and documentarian. He has filmed worldwide a number of documentaries for RAI (National Italian Broadcasting Company). He directed plays at several different theatres in the US, in Russian Federation and former Soviet Union. Theater Landi made his professional directing debut with the Italian national premiere of ''After Magritte'' (1986), by the English author Tom Stoppard. with scenery designed by the American painter Jack Frankfurter. His following production, ''The Bald Soprano'' by Eugene Ionesco, was performed in Italy, France (Avignon Festival), the USA (Richmond, Virginia), and Russia (Omsk and Saratov). After the fall of the Berlin Wall he continued his career in former URSS. In 1990 he worked in the previously closed town of Omsk. The Venetian Twins
''The Venetian Twins'' ( it, I due gemelli veneziani, links=no, or "The two Venetian twins") is a 1747 play by Carlo Goldoni, based on Plautus's ''Menaechmi''. It was performed by Il Teatro Stabile of Genoa at the 1965 Edinburgh International Festival, directed by Luigi Squarzina and starring the celebrated Italian actor Alberto Lionello as the two twins. More recent productions include one at the Watermill Theatre and a 1993 production directed by Michael Bogdanov for the Royal Shakespeare Company. The play has also been adapted and staged as a 1979 Australian two-act musical comedy. ''L'uomo, la bestia e la virtù'' (), internationally released as ''Man, Beast and Virtue'', is a 1953 Italian comedy film directed by Steno. It starred Italian comedian Totò and famed actor Orson Welles. The film was originally shot in Gevacolor, but only black-and-white prints exist today. Sergio Leone and Lucio Fulci were both assistant directors on this film. Fulci said the film did not really do well, but it gave Fulci his first screenwriting credit, and he really enjoyed being in Orson Welles' presence. Welles was in Italy filming ''Othello'' at the time, and Fulci said Welles' entire diet consisted of oranges which he ate in massive quantities. Fulci described Totò as being a very sad figure, and said Carlo Ponti forced him to star in this film against his will as Totò had signed a contract with the producer. Frayn conceived the idea in 1970 while watching from the wings a performance of ''The Two of Us'', a farce that he had written for Lynn Redgrave. He said, "It was funnier from behind than in front, and I thought that one day I must write a farce from behind." The prototype, a short-lived one-act play called ''Exits'', was written and performed in 1977. At the request of his associate, Michael Codron, Frayn expanded this into what would become ''Noises Off''. ''They Shoot Horses, Don't They?'' is a novel written by Horace McCoy and first published in 1935. The story mainly concerns a dance marathon during the Great Depression. It was adapted into Sydney Pollack's 1969 film of the same name. Plot summary The story follows the narrator, Robert Syverten, a naive young man in Hollywood who dreams of being a film director. The story begins with Robert's sentencing for murder. He confesses that he "killed her," and that he does not "have a leg to stand on." He is advised to beg for mercy from the court. David Ives
David Ives (born July 11, 1950) is an American playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. He is perhaps best known for his comic one-act plays; '' The New York Times'' in 1997 referred to him as the "maestro of the short form". Ives has also written dramatic plays, narrative stories, and screenplays, has adapted French 17th and 18th-century classical comedies, and adapted 33 musicals for New York City's ''Encores!'' series. Nelson Mandela
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (; ; 18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid activist who served as the first president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.
