Panmure-Ōtāhuhu
Panmure-Ōtāhuhu is an electorate to the New Zealand House of Representatives in south-central Auckland. It was first contested at the , and has been held by Jenny Salesa of the Labour Party since its inception. Population centres It is located in south-central Auckland, along the thinnest section of the Auckland isthmus. The electorate consists of the mid-eastern part of the Manukau ward, and a long strip of suburbs along the west bank of the Tāmaki River. History Panmure-Ōtāhuhu was created in the 2019/20 redistribution, mostly from the former Manukau East, but now including a large portion of the eastern part of the Maungakiekie electorate. Rapid population growth north of Auckland resulted in a domino effect through Auckland, and in becoming Panmure-Ōtāhuhu, Manukau East was moved northward, losing a triangular area around Puhinui to and being extended north to Point England. Jenny Salesa
Jennifer Teresia Salesa (née Latu, born ) is a New Zealand politician and member of the Labour Party who has served as a Member of Parliament since 2014. She was first elected as MP for Manukau East, and after its abolition in 2020 won the replacement electorate of Panmure-Ōtāhuhu. She served as a Cabinet Minister in the Sixth Labour Government as Minister for Building and Construction, Minister of Customs (from 2019) and Minister for Ethnic Communities from 2017 until 6 November 2020. Early life and career She is of Tongan heritage and is married to university academic Damon Salesa. Prior to entering Parliament Salesa had worked in the public sector, and overseas in the United States. Faʻanānā Efeso Collins (27 May 1974 – 21 February 2024) was a New Zealand politician, activist, and academic. A former long-serving member of the New Zealand Labour Party, local body politician, and advocate for the Pasifika community of Auckland, he was a Member of Parliament for the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand from October 2023 until his sudden death in February 2024. Collins was born in Ōtara, South Auckland, to working-class Samoan immigrants. He attended the University of Auckland, where he later lectured, and in 1999 was the first Pasifika elected as President of the Auckland University Students' Association. The 2020 New Zealand general election was held on Saturday 17 October 2020 to determine the composition of the 53rd New Zealand Parliament. Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi
Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi (Punjabi: ਕੰਵਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ; born 20 February 1964) is an Indian-born New Zealand politician and a member of the National Party. He was a Member of Parliament as a list MP from the 2008 election to the 2020 election. Early life In an interview, Bakshi said that he was born in Delhi, India. His father, Bakshi Jagdev Singh was a politician. Bakshi attended Guru Harkrishan Public School and acquired a degree in Commerce from the University of Delhi in 1985. His first job after graduation was in the family's freight business where he eventually became a marketing manager. Bakshi married Irvinder Kaur in 1989, and moved to New Zealand in 2001. The Communist League is a New Zealand communist party. History The party was founded in 1969 by students from Victoria University of Wellington, and was originally named the Socialist Action League. Maungakiekie is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate, returning one Member of Parliament to the New Zealand House of Representatives. The current MP for Maungakiekie is Greg Fleming of the National Party. The electorate's name comes from Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill, a large and symbolically important hill at the western end of the seat. The core of Maungakiekie is the suburbs of Auckland clustered around the Southern Motorway, and the most southern parts of the Auckland isthmus facing the Manukau Harbour.
