Panihati
Panihati is a city and a municipality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian States and territories of India, state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). History There is a legendary belief that Maharaja Chandraketu of Deganga established a ''garh'' (fort) at Panihati in the 13th century. There is an association of goddess Bhawani with the fort. In the early days when river transport was the primary means of communication, Panihati was a major trading and business centre, then known as Pannyahati (Emporium for Merchandise). Scholars feel that the name has come from the word Pannyahatic. Barrackpore Trunk Road
Barrackpore Trunk Road, commonly known as BT Road, is 4-6 laned trunk road in Kolkata metropolitan area, West Bengal, India. It connects Kolkata with its suburb Naihati via Barrackpore. Built in 1775, it is the oldest metalled road and one of the busiest roads in the country. The long road is a part of both State Highway 1 (West Bengal), State Highway 1 and State Highway 2 (West Bengal), State Highway 2. Barrackpore Trunk Road has multiple institutes and other landmarks along it, including the Indian Statistical Institute and Rabindra Bharati University. Gandhi Memorial Asram popularly known as ''Sodepur Khadi Ashram'' is a heritage institution of Sodepur, Panihati, North 24 Parganas in the Indian state of West Bengal. History This Ashram was established in 1924 by the Gandhian activist, scientist and inventor, Satish Chandra Dasgupta, former superintendent of Bengal Chemicals.
