Panicos Chrysanthou
Panicos Chrysanthou (Greek: Πανίκος Χρυσάνθου; born 1951) is a Greek Cypriot filmmaker and documentarian. Biography Panicos Chrysanthou was born in Kythrea in 1951. He graduated from the University of Athens The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA; , ''Ethnikó kai Kapodistriakó Panepistímio Athinón''), usually referred to simply as the University of Athens (UoA), is a public university in Athens, Greece, with various campuses alo ... with a joint degree in literature and philosophy. Chrysanthou worked as an assistant director and executive producer in Greek and Cypriot films before making his own films. Kythrea
Kythrea ( or ; ) is a small town in Cyprus, 10 km northeast of Nicosia. Kythrea is under the '' de facto'' control of Northern Cyprus. History Kythrea is situated near the ancient Greek city-kingdom of Chytroi, which was founded by Chytros, son of Alexander and grandson of the grandson of the Athenian King Akamas. According to one tradition, the name Kythrea derives from Chytroi (Χύτροι > *Χυτρέα > Κυθρέα). According to another tradition, it derives from the name of the Greek Ionian island Kythera, from where millstones were transferred to Kythrea's watermills. In Delphic Theorodochoi inscription, one inscription mentions the Chytroi. With the spread of Christianity in Cyprus, Chytroi became a bishopric. Derviş Zaim (born Derviş Zaimağaoğlu in 1964) is a Turkish Cypriot filmmaker and novelist, who has twice won the Golden Orange for Best Director for '' Elephants and Grass'' (2000) and ''Dot (2008)''; Golden Oranges for Best Film and Best Screenplay for '' Somersault in a Coffin'' (1996); and the Yunus Nadi literary prize for his debut novel ''Ares in Wonderland'' (1995).
