Pandit Gopal Krishan Sharma
Pandit Gopal Krishan Sharma (1926–2004) was an exponent of Vichitra Veena, an ancient Indian musical instrument. Early life and Musical Training Gopal Krishan was given initial music lessons by his father, Pandit Nand Kishore, who was himself a noted surbahar player, a vocalist and a student of Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. After his father's death, Gopal Krishan continued his training in music under the guidance of Pt. Khubchand Bramchari of the Gwalior school of music. He joined All India Radio (AIR) in 1949 and later became an accomplished artist there. Skills and Style Gopal Krishan was a versatile musician, possessing the ability to play different instruments like tabla, guitar, and a folk instrument called the ektara. Alap
The Alap (; ) is the opening section of a typical North Indian classical performance. It is a form of melodic improvisation that introduces and develops a raga. In dhrupad singing the alap is unmetered, improvised (within the raga) and unaccompanied (except for the tanpura drone), and started at a slow tempo. For people unfamiliar with the raga form, it introduces the thaat to the listener. It defines the raga, its mood, and the emphasized notes and notes with a secondary role. Instead of wholly free improvisation, many musicians perform alap schematically, for example by way of ''vistar'', where the notes of the raga are introduced one at a time, so that phrases never travel further than one note above or below what has been covered before. Shrikrishan Sharma
Pandit Shri krishan Sharma is an Indian musician. He hails from a family of musicians. His initial training in music came from the "Guru Shishya Parampara" from his father, Pandit Gopal Krishan Sharma the foremost Vichitra Veena maestro. He has given concerts in places such as Delhi, Kolkata, Gwalior, Chennai, Jaipur, Bhopal, Maihar, Lucknow, Banaras, Indore, Pune, Agra, Goa and Shimla. He performed in America, Mauritius, Réunion and the Netherlands. Prominent in his recital is ''Gayaki Ang'', with imaginative Alap, Jod Jhala, Gatkari and Layakari, in which he excels. He featured in programmes broadcast by All India Radio and on television for over three decades. He is a Top Rank artist of All India Radio.
