Panagiotis Kermanidis
Panagiotis Kermanidis (Greek: Παναγιώτης Κερμανίδης; born 12 July 1950) is a Greek former football player and manager. Biography Kermanidis was born on July 14, 1950, in Zgorzelec, Poland from Greek political refugees and raised in Hungary. He played football in Kispesti Textil and later in MTK Budapest, until September 1973, when he was acquired by PAOK Thessaloniki. At PAOK, Kermanidis won the Greek Cup in 1974 and the championship in 1976. In his 8 years with the club, he scored 60 times in 233 appearances. Later, Kermanidis played for Makedonikos and Naoussa where he ended his career. Zgorzelec
Zgorzelec (, , , , Lower Sorbian: ''Zgórjelc'') is a town in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in southwestern Poland, with 30,374 inhabitants (2019). It is the seat of Zgorzelec County and of Gmina Zgorzelec (although it is not part of the territory of the latter, as the town is an urban gmina in its own right). During and after the Greek Civil War of 1946–1949, members and or supporters of the defeated Communist forces fled Greece as political refugees. The collapse of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE) and subsequent evacuation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) to Tashkent in 1949 led thousands of people to leave the country. It has been estimated that by 1949, over 100,000 people had left Greece for Yugoslavia and the Eastern Bloc, particularly the USSR and Czechoslovakia. These included tens of thousands of child refugees who had been forcefully evacuated by the KKE. The war wrought widespread devastation right across Greece and particularly in the regions of Macedonia and Epirus, causing many people to continue to leave the country even after it had ended.
