Pan American Championship (other)
A Pan American Championship is a top level international sports competition between athletes or sports teams representing their respective countries or professional sports clubs in the Americas. Typically these championships are recurring, the most common formats being annual, biennial and quadrennial. The Pan American Games is the highest level sporting competition for the region. It is common for there to be sport-specific governing bodies to organise these regional competitions, such as the Pan American Judo Confederation. The 2005 NACAC Combined Events Championships were held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the Estadio Sixto Escobar on May 28–29, 2005. Pan American Beach Handball Championship
The Pan American Beach Handball Championship was the official competition for Men's and Women's national beach handball teams of America. In addition to crowning the Pan American champions, the tournament also served as a qualifying tournament for the Beach Handball World Championships. In 2018, the PATHF folded and the tournament was replaced with the Nor.Ca. Beach Handball Championship, North America & the Caribbean and South and Central American Beach Handball Championship, South & Central American championships. Beach Handball
Beach handball is a team sport where two teams pass and bounce or roll a ball, trying to throw it in the goal of the opposing team. The game is similar to standard handball, but it is played on sand instead of on a solid floor. Because the ball loses most of its bounce on sand, there is little to no dribbling, and players instead perform more passing as the rules of travelling still apply. Description Matches are played as two 10-minute sets, with a half-time of 5 minutes. If teams are tied at the end of a regular set then the teams play for a golden goal. If the teams are tied at the end of 2 sets then the teams will participate in a tiebreaker. The tie break involves a goalie throwing the ball to their own player while that player attempts to score one-on-one with the opposing goalie. The 1980 Tournament of the Americas, since 2005 called the FIBA Americas Championship or the FIBA AmeriCup, was the inaugural edition of this basketball tournament, and it was hosted by Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico, San Juan from April 18 to April 25, 1980. FIBA Americas Championship
The FIBA AmeriCup (previously known as the FIBA Americas Championship) is the Americas Basketball Championship that takes place every four years between national teams of the Western Hemisphere continents. Since FIBA organized the entire Western Hemisphere west of the Atlantic Ocean under one zone, countries from North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America compete in this tournament. Through the 2015 edition, the Americas Championship took place every two years, and was also a qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Cup and the Summer Olympic Games. However, since 2017, the AmeriCup, along with all other FIBA continental championships for men are played once every four years. Pan American Badminton Championships
The Pan American Badminton Championships is a tournament organized since 1977 by the Badminton Pan America (BPA) to crown the best badminton players in the Americas. The tournament was held every year from 1977 until 1980, then every two years from 1987 until 2007. It is now organized annually, except once every four years when the Pan American Games multi-sports event is held. Badminton has been part of the Pan American Games since 1995.
