Pan (band)
Pan is a Filipino folk/punk rock band formed in 2002. The band was formed as a duo composed of former Yano bandmates Dong Abay on vocals and Onie Badiang on bass; the duo later added Duane Cruz and Melvin Leyson to play the bass and drums live. The band only released one album, '' Parnaso ng Payaso''. The song "Hula" () from that album won as Best Folk/Pop Recording at the 2003 Awit Awards The Awit Awards are music awards in the Philippines given annually by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) to recognize the outstanding achievements in the music industry. Dong Abay
Westdon Martin Abay (born April 5, 1971), popularly known as Dong Abay, is a poet and a Pinoy rock musician. He was the founding member, songwriter and lead vocalist of the bands Yano, Pan, and dongabay, which are now all defunct. In 2005, he pursued a solo career as an independent artist by releasing an album entitled ''Sampol''. In 2017, he formed a rock band named Dong Abay Music Organization or D.A.M.O. while having other endeavors such as a songwriting school. Biography Personal life Abay was born on April 5, 1971, in Manila, Philippines to Manuel Abay and Susana Martin. He is married to Ninj Botor Reyes. They have a son named Awit ( Tagalog for "song" or "chant"), born on May 15, 2002. In January 2021, Abay was accused of being the masked rioter holding a broom during the storming of the United States Capitol. Yano
Yano is a Filipino folk/punk rock band formed in 1993. The band members were originally composed of Dong Abay on vocals and Eric Gancio on guitar. Onie Badiang later joined them to play bass. Nowie Favila was the usual drummer but declined to join the group due to commitments with Ang Grupong Pendong. Other drummers of the band included Nonong Timbalopez, Harley Alarcon and Jun Nogoy. The band got their name when Abay looked through an entry in "''Talahulugang Pilipino''", an old Tagalog dictionary. "Yano" in Tagalog means "simple", similar to modern Tagalog term "payák". In dialectal Tagalog, the term "''yano''" may also mean "extreme", and usually by extension, "''kayanuhan''" may also mean "state of being right quality, kind, size, class, etc." The term is often used by Tagalog speakers in the province of Quezon. Awit Awards
The Awit Awards are music awards in the Philippines given annually by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) to recognize the outstanding achievements in the music industry. The word "Awit" means "song" literally in Filipino. The first awards were given in 1969 at a ceremony in Makati. After three awards ceremonies were held, the Awit Awards were discontinued in 1972. In 1988, PARI brought back the awards and today, the organization still handles these awards. The NU Rock Awards was an annual accolade presented from 1994 to 2010 by the Metro Manila-based radio station NU 107, known for prominent performances by the most influential pinoy rock artists of each year.
