Palapye Solar Power Station
The Palapye Solar Power Station, also Lotsane Solar Power Station, is a solar power station, under development in Botswana. The solar farm is owned and is being developed by Solarcentury from the United Kingdom and ENRC from Botswana. The power generated here is intended to be fed into the Southern Africa Power Pool for export. As of February 2024 the development has received a power generation license from the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA). Location The power station is located in the town of Palapye, in the Central District of Botswana. The solar farm lies adjacent to the Morupule Coal Mine. Palapye is located approximately northeast of Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. Morupule Colliery
The Morupule Colliery is a coal mine located in Palapye, Botswana, owned and operated by Debswana, a partnership between the government of Botswana and De Beers. The coalfield is composed of four main seams, only one of which, the No. 1 Seam, is currently being mined, using bord and pillar mining methods. Founded in 1971 to supply the Bamangwato Concessions Ltd copper and nickel mine, operations have expanded considerably since then to supply regional power plants and industries, especially the nearby Morupule Power Station. Central is the largest of Botswana's districts in terms of area and population. It encompasses the traditional homeland of the Bamangwato people. Palapye
Palapye is a growing town in Botswana, situated about halfway between Francistown and Gaborone ( from Francistown and from Gaborone). Over the years its position has made it a convenient stopover on one of Southern Africa's principal north–south rail and road routes. Located here is the Morupule Colliery, which supplies Morupule Power Station, Botswana's principal domestic source of electricity. The Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) is a cooperation of the national electricity companies in Southern Africa under the auspices of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
