Palakkad MEMU Car Shed is an ISO certified motive power depot facility for maintaining MEMU rakes, situated at Palakkad in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the four MEMU rake maintenance sheds serving the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and the first MEMU Shed in Kerala. History Railway proposed MEMU Car sheds in Palakkad and Kollam in 2008's Indian Railway Budget. Palakkad MEMU shed inaugurated on 1 January 2011. Palakkad Junction (formerly Olavakkode Junction)(station code: PGT) is an NSG–2 category Indian railway station in Palakkad railway division of Southern Railway zone. It is one of the largest railway stations in Kerala state, India situated in the city of Palakkad and the second largest railway station in the district. The Shoranur–Mangalore section, also known as Shoranur–Mangaluru section, is a railway segment of IR functioning under Palakkad Division of Southern Railway Zone. This is a broad gauge electrified line which begins at the Shornur Junction railway station in Kerala and ends at the Mangalore Central railway station in Karnataka. Jolarpettai–Shoranur Line
The Jolarpettai–Shoranur line is a broad gauge railway line connecting Jolarpettai in Tamil Nadu and Shoranur in Kerala. Incoming from Chennai, the railway line branches from the Chennai Central–Bangalore City line at Jolarpettai and proceeds towards Shoranur before further radiating out. History The Madras Railway was established in 1845 and the construction on the first main line in South India between Royapuram in Madras and Arcot started in 1853, which became operational on 1 July 1856. Madras Railway extended its trunk route from Madras to Beypore near Kozhikode in 1862. The line passed through Jolarpettai connecting Coimbatore before passing through the Palghat gap and proceeded towards Shoranur.
