Palais Royal (Houston-based Department Store)
Palais Royal was an American chain of department stores, owned by Stage Stores, Inc. and headquartered in Houston, Texas, that specialized in retailing brand name apparel, accessories, cosmetics, footwear, and housewares. Brands exclusively found at Palais Royal included Valerie Stevens, Signature Studio, Sun River, Rustic Blue, Rebecca Malone, Wishful Park. History Palais Royal originated in 1921 in Downtown Houston, at 620 Main Street, as a small one room shop owned by Milton Levy. Two years later, a larger space was needed, and the store relocated to the corner of Main and Capital. Milton Levy passed away that same year. Isadore Erlich moved to Houston from Dallas in 1937 and purchased a controlling interest, and became president of Palais Royal. Almeda Mall is a shopping mall located in the Southeast Houston neighborhood of Genoa on Interstate 45. The mall opened in 1968. Macroplaza Mall
Macroplaza Mall, formerly Pasadena Town Square Mall and Plaza Paseo Mall, is a regional shopping mall in Pasadena, Texas, southeast of Houston. Developed by Federated Department Stores Realty and attached to an existing Foley's Department store, it opened March 1982. The mall originally featured Joske's, Foley's, and Palais Royal (Houston-based department store) as its anchor stores. At the time it was built, its location was unusual as it was one of only a few malls in the Houston area not near a highway. Oak Forest is a large residential community in northwest Houston, Texas, United States. Oak Forest is the third largest group of subdivisions in Harris County, Texas, Harris County (behind Kingwood, Houston, Kingwood and Sharpstown). Gordmans (stylized as gordmans) was a retailer founded in Omaha, Nebraska. The chain is owned by BrandX as of May 2022. In 2019, Stage Stores began converting other retail chains it owned into Gordmans stores, with the goal of having 700 Gordmans stores in 42 states by the end of 2020. Wellan's is a defunct chain of American department store formerly headquartered in Alexandria, Louisiana. History Beginnings Wellan's Department Store started as a small store on Second Street in Alexandria and was founded by Louis Wellan. It had many items for sale such as dresses, menswear, and some toys and furniture. It coined itself as a new family-oriented store in central Louisiana, and conducted business in just that manner. In 1924, it moved to what would become its landmark location on Third Street. It served the city and region, and became known for its famous Christmas displays in December.
