Pahari People (Nepal)
The Pahadi people (Devanagari: पहाडी; ; Pahāḍi, also called Pahadi and Parbati) are an Indo-Aryan group living in the hilly region (Pahad) of Nepal. Most Paharis, however, identify as members of constituent subgroups and castes within the larger Pahari community such as Brahmin (Bahun in Nepal), Kshatriya (Chhetri in Nepal) and Dalits. The name Pahadi derives from ''pahad'' (''पहाड''), meaning "hill", and corresponds to the Hill Region foothills of Himalayan in where the Paharis live. Nepali interpretation generally includes Pahari as constituting the dominant Khas, indicating a contrast to that of these Indo-Aryan ethnicities with that of the Tibetan or Janjati origins like Magar, Tamang, Gurung, Kirat, among others. Pahari may also contrast geography alone. History The Paharis are historically ancient, having been mentioned by the authors Pliny and Herodotus and figuring in India's epic poem, the Mahābhārata. Pahari People (Kashmir)
The Pahari people of Kashmir or Pahari-speaking people of Kashmir is a cover term for a number of heterogeneous communities inhabiting Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-administered Azad Kashmir who speak various distinct dialects and languages termed as Pahari. In October 2022, the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir government amended its Reservation Rules, officially replacing "Pahari-speaking" people with "Pahari Ethnic Group". This was done after campaigning by local Pahari-speaking people, who sought recognition in the Reservation Rules based on ethnicity and not language due to their socioeconomic conditions. Past governments had rejected claims to classify a unified Pahari ethnicity on the grounds that the group was too diverse to classify as a singular ethnicity. This change legalized and formalized a Pahari ethnic group in Indian-administered J&K to be eligible for affirmative action. Pahari Ethnic Group The J&K Socially Economically Backward C ... The term ''Jumma'' (from Jhum cultivation, ), also called ''Pahari'' () by Bengalis, usually referred to the indigenous tribal peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of Bangladesh. They include the Chakma, Arakanese (Rakhine), Marma, Tripuri, Tanchangya, Chak, Pankho, Mru, Bawm, Lushai, Khyang, and Khumi. With the exception of the relatively well-integrated Chakma and Tanchangya, most of the peoples referring themselves ''Jumma'' are native speakers of Tibeto-Burman languages, unrelated to the Bengali language spoken by ethnic Bengalis. They are religiously and culturally distinct as well, with most being Buddhists, some Hindus, and some being converted Christians and Muslims. In addition, they have retained some traditional religious practices. Ethnicity Below is the population distribution of the Jumma people in Chittagong Hill Tracts, represented in pie chart. The Chakma community forms the majority, followed by the Marma and Tripura people. History Pa ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Pahari Painting
Pahari painting () is an umbrella term used for a form of Indian painting, done mostly in miniature forms, originating from the lower Himalayan hill kingdoms of North India, during the early 17th to mid 19th century, notably Basohli, Mankot, Nurpur, Chamba, Kangra, Guler, Mandi and Garhwal. Nainsukh was a famous master of the mid-18th century, followed by his family workshop for another two generations. The central theme of Pahari painting is depiction of eternal love of the Hindu deities Radha and Krishna. A distinct lyricism, spontaneous rhythm, softness, minute intricate details of composition, and intense perception and portrayal of human emotions and physical features distinguish the Pahari miniatures from the other miniature schools like Deccan, Mughal and Rajasthani-Rajput. Origin and area The Pahari school developed and flourished during the 17th and 19th centuries, stretching from Jammu to Garhwal, in the sub- Himalayan India, through Himachal Pradesh. Each cr ...
