Page Pate
Page Pate (May 3, 1967 – September 11, 2022) was an American attorney and legal commentator at the Atlanta, Georgia-based law firm Pate, Johnson & Church. He had been a practicing trial lawyer for over 25 years when he died in September 2022, and he also had extensive experience in criminal defense. He was a founding member of the Georgia Innocence Project and frequently provided legal commentary to CNN, ''the New York Times'', and other major media outlets. Biography A native of Dublin, Georgia, Pate received his undergraduate degree from Georgia State University, from which he graduated with honors, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia Law School in 1994. He was named one of the best trial lawyers in the United States by the National Trial Lawyers Association and one of "The Best Lawyers in America" by '' U.S. News & World Report''. Drowning
Drowning is a type of Asphyxia, suffocation induced by the submersion of the mouth and nose in a liquid. Submersion injury refers to both drowning and near-miss incidents. Most instances of fatal drowning occur alone or in situations where others present are either unaware of the victim's situation or unable to offer assistance. After successful resuscitation, drowning victims may experience breathing problems, confusion, or unconsciousness. Occasionally, victims may not begin experiencing these symptoms until several hours after they are rescued. An incident of drowning can also cause further complications for victims due to Hypothermia, low body temperature, Pulmonary aspiration, aspiration, or acute respiratory distress syndrome (respiratory failure from lung inflammation). Drowning is more likely to happen when spending extended periods of time near large bodies of water. Rip Current
A rip current (or just rip) is a specific type of water current that can occur near beaches where waves break. A rip is a strong, localized, and narrow current of water that moves directly away from the shore by cutting through the lines of breaking waves, like a river flowing out to sea. The force of the current in a rip is strongest and fastest next to the surface of the water. Rip currents can be hazardous to people in the water. Swimmers who are caught in a rip current and who do not understand what is happening, or who may not have the necessary water skills, may panic, or they may exhaust themselves by trying to swim directly against the flow of water. Because of these factors, rip currents are the leading cause of rescues by lifeguards at beaches. In the United States they cause an average of 71 deaths by drowning per year .
