Page Moss
Page Moss is an area in the borough of Knowsley, Merseyside. It borders the city of Liverpool to the east. Previously known as "The Horns" due to the crime and previous people using guns naming them horns. The population of the Knowsley ward taken at the 2011 census was 7,076. The A57/Liverpool Road which passes through Page Moss was historically an early turnpike, toll houses were installed during the 1700s on what later became well known public houses in the area such as "The Eagle and Child" and "The Bluebell Inn". Markers were placed at mile intervals along the toll road and an original still stands to this day alongside the eastbound side of Liverpool Road opposite the junction with Lyme Cross Road, previously a mile marker would be situated on the corner of Twig Lane but this has been missing since at least the 1930s when the Page Moss estate was constructed for housing. Metropolitan Borough Of Knowsley
The Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley is a metropolitan borough in Merseyside, North West England. It covers several towns and villages, including Kirkby, Prescot, Huyton, Whiston, Halewood, Cronton and Stockbridge Village; Kirkby, Huyton, and Prescot being the major commercial centres. It takes its name from the village of Knowsley, though its headquarters are in Huyton. It forms part of the wider Liverpool City Region. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, the borough was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of Huyton-with-Roby Urban District, Kirkby Urban District and Prescot Urban District, along with most of Whiston Rural District and a small part of West Lancashire Rural District, all from the administrative county of Lancashire. Knowsley is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2024 by Anneliese Midgley of the Labour Party. Constituency profile The constituency mainly consists of low-income social housing and former social housing built to decant the residents displaced by post-war slum clearance in Liverpool. It includes Huyton to the south (once represented by Prime Minister Harold Wilson) and Kirkby to the north. Turnpike Trust
Turnpike trusts were bodies set up by individual Acts of Parliament in the United Kingdom, Acts of Parliament, with powers to collect road toll road, tolls for maintaining the principal roads in Kingdom of Great Britain, Britain from the 17th but especially during the 18th and 19th centuries. At the peak, in the 1830s, over 1,000 trusts administered around of turnpike road in England and Wales, taking tolls at almost 8,000 toll-gates and side-bars.
