Padmini Prakash
Padmini Prakash is an Indian news anchor, actress and transgender rights activist. She became the first openly trans person to work as a news anchor in India when she joined the Tamil channel Lotus News Channel on 15 August 2014. Early life and education Padmini was born into a conservative Tamil family in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Padmini was disowned by her family who rejected her gender identity, at the age of 13. She left her home at age 16, and has not been in contact with her family since then. After leaving home, she was supported by her cousin Prakash. She completed her school education and applied for a distance-learning correspondence course for a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, which she was forced to drop out of after her second year due to financial setbacks as well discrimination and bullying for her gender identity. Star Vijay is an Indian Tamil language general entertainment pay television channel owned by Disney Star (formerly Star India), a subsidiary of Asianet Star Communications. A transgender (often abbreviated as trans) person is someone whose gender identity or gender expression does not correspond with their sex assigned at birth. Many transgender people experience dysphoria, which they seek to alleviate through transitioning, often adopting a different name and set of pronouns in the process. Additionally, they may undergo sex reassignment therapies such as hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery to more closely align their primary and secondary sex characteristics with their gender identity.
