Richard Joseph Padden (September 17, 1870 – October 31, 1922), nicknamed "Brains", was an American professional baseball player, born in Wheeling, West Virginia, who played mainly as a second baseman in Major League Baseball for nine seasons from to . After playing a season and a half in the minor leagues, the right-handed infielder began his major league career for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played three seasons in Pittsburgh, from 1896 to , before playing one season for the Washington Senators in . He returned to the minor leagues for the 1900 season, where he was the player-manager for the Chicago White Sox, then a minor league team. Carol A. Padden (born 1955 in Washington, D.C.) is an American academic, author, and lecturer. She is a professor in the Department of Communication at the University of California, San Diego, where she has been teaching since 1983. Michael John Padden (born November 13, 1946) is a lawyer and politician from Spokane Valley, Washington. He is a member of the Washington State Senate representing Washington's 4th Legislative District. Padden is well known as a "faithless elector", a Presidential Elector who casts his vote for someone other than for whom he has pledged to vote. In the 1976 U.S. presidential election, Gerald Ford, the Republican candidate and incumbent, had lost the race to Democrat and former Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter. Rather than vote as pledged, for President Ford, Padden instead cast his vote for Ronald Reagan, who had lost the Republican nomination to Ford earlier that year. He entered the Washington House of Representatives in January 1981 and served there until 1995 when he was appointed to serve as a district court judge in the Spokane County District Court. Volcano the Bear are an improvisational/experimental English band formed in Leicester in 1995. Willie Joe Padden is a former Gaelic footballer who received two All Stars awards, and represented Mayo in an 1989 All-Ireland SFC Final but lost to Cork. His son Billy Joe also played for Mayo. Willie Joe was born in Belmullet on 6 February 1959. He attended his local primary school in Aughalsheen just outside Belmullet. He went to the Convent of Mercy secondary school in Belmullet. Playing career Padden started playing Gaelic football at age 11, played Minor football for Belmullet GFC at 14 and started playing Senior club championship at the age of 16, joining the Mayo minor panel in the same year. Thomas Francis Padden (October 6, 1908 – June 10, 1973) was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1932 to 1937 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Padden returned to Major League Baseball in 1943 during the World War II manpower shortage to play for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Senators. Baseball career Padden was a native of Manchester, New Hampshire. He attended The College of the Holy Cross and graduated from Saint Anselm College. He began his professional baseball career in 1928 with his hometown Manchester Blue Sox.
