PTT Archive
The PTT Archive (formerly ''Historical Archive and Library PTT'') is the archive of the former Swiss Postal, Telegraph and Telephone Services (PTT). In 1997 the PTT was divided up into the companies of the Swiss Post (today the Swiss Post Ltd.) and the Swisscom Ltd. On behalf of these two public limited companies, the PTT Archive is being operated by the Swiss Foundation for the History of the Post and Telecommunications. By obligation of Swiss archival law, the Swiss Post Ltd. and the Swisscom Ltd., being the successors of the PTT, are bound to preserve these archival holdings and make them accessible to the public. The PTT Archive is situated in Köniz near Bern and is classified as an object of national interest in the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Assets. Postal Telegraph And Telephone (Switzerland)
PTT (german: Post, Telefon und Telegraph, french: Postes, téléphones et télégraphes, it, Poste, telefoni e telegrafi) was the Swiss Postal Telegraph and Telephone agency, formed in 1928. In the course of the international trend towards liberalisation of the telecommunications market, it was transformed into two public service companies on January 1, 1998, Swiss Post and Swisscom. While Swiss Post remained a government agency with a partial service monopoly, Swisscom became a competitor on a liberalised telecommunications market and is an ''Aktiengesellschaft'' of which the Confederation holds a majority of shares. Oral History
Oral history is the collection and study of historical information about individuals, families, important events, or everyday life using audiotapes, videotapes, or transcriptions of planned interviews. These interviews are conducted with people who participated in or observed past events and whose memories and perceptions of these are to be preserved as an aural record for future generations. International Telecommunication Union
The International Telecommunication Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for many matters related to information and communication technologies. Universal Postal Union
The Universal Postal Union (UPU, french: link=no, Union postale universelle), established by the Treaty of Bern of 1874, is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that coordinates postal policies among member nations, in addition to the worldwide postal system. The UPU contains four bodies consisting of the Congress, the Council of Administration (CA), the Postal Operations Council (POC) and the International Bureau (IB). Natel
Natel is a generic trademark used in Switzerland and in Liechtenstein for 'mobile phone'. The word was coined in 1975, when the Swiss Postal Telegraph and Telephone introduced a mobile phone service for vehicles in Switzerland: Nationales Auto-TELefonnetz, or "National Car Telephone Network". When the PTT was dismantled in 1998, it split into two public service companies. The telecom corporation, Swisscom, continued to develop the Swiss mobile network, and registered the word ''Natel'' as a trademark. It remains a brand of the company's mobile telephony services to this day. In Switzerland, "Natel" is still used as a synonym for mobile (or cell) phone across the country. PostBus Switzerland
PostAuto Switzerland, PostBus Ltd. (known as in Swiss Standard German (), in Swiss French (), in Swiss Italian (), and in Romansh () is a subsidiary company of the Swiss Post, which provides regional and rural bus services throughout Switzerland, and also in France, Germany, and Liechtenstein. The Swiss PostAuto service evolved as a motorized successor to the stagecoaches that previously carried passengers and mail in Switzerland, with the Swiss postal service providing postbus services carrying both passengers and mail. Although this combination had been self-evident in the past, the needs of each diverged towards the end of the twentieth century, when the conveyance of parcels was progressively separated from public transportation. Swiss Federal Archives
The Swiss Federal Archives (german: Schweizerisches Bundesarchiv, french: Archives fédérales suisses, it, Archivio federale svizzero, rm, Archiv federal svizzer) are the national archives of Switzerland. Additionally, the cantons have official archives of their own. The building and its collections are a Swiss heritage site of national significance. In 2018 the archives held over 66,000 linear meters of printed documents and 20.7 terabytes of digital documents.
