PTT Archive
The PTT Archive (formerly ''Historical Archive and Library PTT'') is the archive of the former Postal Telegraph and Telephone (Switzerland), Swiss Postal, Telegraph and Telephone Services (PTT). In 1997 PTT was split into two companies: Swiss Post) and Swisscom. The PTT Archive is operated on their behalf by the Swiss Foundation for the History of the Post and Telecommunications. Under Swiss archival law, Swiss Post and Swisscom, as successors of PTT, are bound to preserve the archive and make it accessible to the public. The PTT Archive is situated in Köniz near Bern and is classified as an object of national interest in the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Assets. Postal Telegraph And Telephone (Switzerland)
PTT (, , ) was the Postal, telegraph and telephone service, postal, telegraph, and telephone agency of Switzerland, from 1928 to 1998. In the course of the international trend towards liberalisation of the telecommunications market, it was transformed into two public services, public service companies on January 1, 1998, Swiss Post and Swisscom. While Swiss Post remained a government agency with a partial service monopoly (it was converted into a statutory corporation, statutory ''Aktiengesellschaft'' in 2013), Swisscom became a competitor on a liberalised telecommunications market and is an ''Aktiengesellschaft'' of which the Confederation holds a majority of shares. Oral History
Oral history is the collection and study of historical information from people, families, important events, or everyday life using audiotapes, videotapes, or transcriptions of planned interviews. Universal Postal Union
The Universal Postal Union (UPU, ) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that coordinates postal policies among member nations and facilitates a uniform worldwide postal system. It has 192 member states and is headquartered in Bern, Switzerland. Established in 1874 as the General Postal Union, the UPU is among the oldest extant intergovernmental organizations. It sought to standardize international mail delivery by establishing a uniform postal rate and equal treatment between domestic and foreign mail. The organization adopted its current name in 1878. Natel
Natel is a generic trademark used in Switzerland and in Liechtenstein for 'mobile phone'. The word was coined in 1975, when the Swiss Postal Telegraph and Telephone introduced a mobile phone service for vehicles in Switzerland: Nationales Auto-TELefonnetz, or "National Car Telephone Network". When the PTT was dismantled in 1998, it split into two public service companies. The telecom corporation, Swisscom, continued to develop the Swiss mobile network, and registered the word ''Natel'' as a trademark. It remains a brand of the company's mobile telephony services to this day. In Switzerland, "Natel" is still used as a synonym for mobile (or cell) phone across the country. PostAuto Switzerland, PostBus Ltd. (known as in Swiss Standard German (), in Swiss French (), in Swiss Italian (), and in Romansh () is a subsidiary company of the Swiss Post, which provides regional and rural bus services throughout Switzerland, and also in France, Germany, and Liechtenstein. The Swiss Federal Archives (, , , ) are the national archives of Switzerland. Additionally, the cantons have official archives of their own. The building and its collections are a Swiss heritage site of national significance. In 2018 the archives held over 66,000 linear meters of printed documents and 20.7 terabytes of digital documents.
