486958 Arrokoth
486958 Arrokoth (Provisional designation in astronomy, provisional designation ; formerly nicknamed Ultima Thule) is a trans-Neptunian object located in the Kuiper belt. Arrokoth became the farthest and most primitive List of minor planets visited by spacecraft, object in the Solar System visited by a spacecraft when the NASA space probe ''New Horizons'' conducted a flyby on 1 January 2019. Arrokoth is a Contact binary (small Solar System body), contact binary long, composed of two planetesimals across, that are joined along their major axes. With an orbital period of about 298 years and a low orbital inclination and orbital eccentricity, eccentricity, Arrokoth is classified as a cold classical Kuiper belt object. Arrokoth was discovered on 26 June 2014 by astronomer Marc Buie and the New Horizons Search Team, ''New Horizons'' Search Team using the Hubble Space Telescope as part of a search for a Kuiper-belt object for ''New Horizons'' to target in its fir ... Pratt & Whitney PT1
The Pratt & Whitney PT1 (US military designation T32) was a free-piston gas turbine project developed in the early 1940s.Connors, p. 167. The project never progressed beyond ground test units, and was cancelled in 1945 in favor of developing the PT2 (T34) turboprop.Connors, p. 171. The development of the PT1 gave Pratt & Whitney engineers valuable experience in designing gas turbines that it would later apply to projects that resulted in the Pratt & Whitney JT3 turbojet engine.Connors, p. 171. Consolidated PT-1 Trusty
The Consolidated PT-1 Trusty (company designation Model 1) is a biplane primary trainer used by the United States Army Air Service (USAAS) in the 1920s. Design and development In 1921, Colonel Virginius Clark, chief designer of the Dayton-Wright Company, designed the Chummy sporting biplane. The airframe was advanced in its use of the new Clark Y thick-section airfoil and a welded fuselage framework of chrome-molybdenum steel tubing. A departure from the all-wood structures found in other trainers, the structure proved sturdy and dependable. It was offered to the USAAS as a replacement for the Curtiss JN-4D trainer, with a choice of Le Rhone or Clerget rotary piston engines. In 1922, the Army ordered three TA-3 (Trainer, Air-cooled, Type 3) machines for evaluation with the Le Rhone engine and dual controls. Evaluation showed that the type had the makings of a good trainer, but was somewhat lacking in power, so in 1923 Dayton-Wright modified one TA-3 with a more powerful ... PT Boat
A PT boat (short for patrol torpedo boat) was a motor torpedo boat used by the United States Navy in World War II. It was small, fast, and inexpensive to build, and it was valued for its maneuverability and speed. However, PT boats were hampered at the beginning of the war by ineffective torpedoes, limited armament, and comparatively fragile construction that limited some of the variants to coastal waters. In the US Navy they were organized in Motor Torpedo Boat Squadrons (MTBRONs). The PT boat was very different from the first generation of torpedo boats, which had been developed at the end of the 19th century and featured a displacement hull form. These first generation torpedo boats rode low in the water, displaced up to 300 tons, and had a top speed of . During World War I Italy, the US, and UK developed the first high-performance, gasoline-powered motor torpedo boats (often with top speeds over ) and corresponding torpedo tactics, but these projects were all quickly di ... Paratriathlon Classification
Paratriathlon classification is the classification system for athletes participating in paratriathlon. It is governed by the World Triathlon (formerly known as ITU). The sport has been included in the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Classification system from 2017 World Triathlon has implemented some modifications to the classification system that was introduced in 2014 after further research was conducted to address certain aspects of the previous system. The research project is an ongoing project for both physical and vision impairments. Paratriathlon groups athletes into nine sport classes, based on three types of impairment, that compete in six medal events. Wheelchair users (PTWC) The two classes are PTWC1 (more severe} and PTWC2, for upper limb and lower limb disabilities, respectively. Athletes must use a recumbent handcycle on the cycling segment and a racing chair for the running segment. The two classes compete together in the same medal event, with PTWC1 competitors recei ...
