Taunsa Sharif (Urdu, Saraiki: تونسه شريف) is a city in the Punjab province of Pakistan and the capital of Taunsa District. It is located on the bank of the Indus River and is known for its agricultural significance. The city is primarily inhabited by Saraiki-speaking people, with a significant population of Balochi speakers who migrated from the Koh-e-Sulaiman mountain region. The region around Taunsa was an ancient settlement and remained a village or town earlier to 21st century. Taunsa District ( Balochi:) is a district in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It was created in 2022 from part of Dera Ghazi Khan district, and was officially notified in 2024. 2024 Punjab Provincial Election
Provincial elections were held in the Pakistani province of Punjab on 8 February 2024 to elect a new provincial legislature. On 5 August 2023, the results of the 2023 digital census were approved by the Council of Common Interests headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
