PEI Conservative Party
The Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island (PEIPC) is one of three major political parties on Prince Edward Island. The party and its rival, the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party, have alternated in power since responsible government was granted in 1851. History The policies of the Liberals and Progressive Conservatives (PCs) are very similar. The major differences are in their allegiances to federal parties and in personalities. The PC Party began as the Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island, and changed its name in 1942 to reflect the development of the federal Progressive Conservative Party. The Progressive Conservatives formed the government in Prince Edward Island under Premier Pat Binns, starting in 1996. The party lost its bid for a fourth mandate in 2007. Robert Lantz (born 1969/1970) is a Canadian politician who has served as the 34th premier of Prince Edward Island since February 21, 2025. He is the interim leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island, and previously served as leader of the PC party for seven months in 2015, having been elected during the party's leadership election on February 28, 2015. 2007 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 2007 Prince Edward Island general election was held on May 28, 2007. It elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The incumbent Progressive Conservative government was defeated by the Liberal opposition after holding power for eleven years. The newly formed Green Party captured 3.04% of the vote or 4.44% in ridings they contested, beating out the New Democratic Party for third place. The New Democrats fell to 1.96% or 3.43% in ridings contested. They captured 3.06% of the vote, or 3.48% in the 24 of the 27 ridings they contested in the 2003 election. Dennis King (born November 1, 1971) is a Canadian politician and diplomat currently serving as the Canadian ambassador to Ireland. James Aylward (politician)
James Aylward (born January 12, 1964) is a Canadian politician affiliated with the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party. His political career began with his election to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2011 provincial election, representing the district of Stratford-Keppoch. Prior to this leadership role, Aylward campaigned for the party’s leadership in December 2014 but was narrowly defeated by Rob Lantz on the second ballot during the leadership convention held on February 28, 2015. The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is a public university in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the only university in the province. Founded in 1969, the enabling legislation is the ''University Act, R.S.P.E.I 2000.'' History The university traces its roots back to 1804, when Lt. Governor Edmund Fanning and the Legislative Council of Prince Edward Island called for the establishment of Kent College. By 1820, the first Kent College building, known as "the National School", or James Breading's School was erected. It was later succeeded by Central Academy, which received a Royal Charter in 1834. 2015 Progressive Conservative Party Of Prince Edward Island Leadership Election
The Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island, Canada selected a new leader on February 28, 2015, to replace Olive Crane who resigned on January 31, 2013. The Progressive Conservatives have been the Official Opposition in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island since June 12, 2007, having lost the 2007 and 2011 provincial elections to the Liberals. The interim leader was Steven Myers. The party used a preferential ballot for its leadership convention for the first time. Voting also occurred at satellite voting sites in Bloomfield, Summerside, Souris and Montague. The election was won by former Charlottetown City Councillor Rob Lantz on the second ballot. Steven Myers (born 8 December 1972) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2011 provincial election. He represents the district of Georgetown-Pownal as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island and was Leader of the Opposition in the legislature, from 2013 to 2015.
