Limassol, also known as Lemesos, is a city on the southern coast of Cyprus and capital of the Limassol district. Limassol is the second-largest urban area in Cyprus after Nicosia, with an urban population of 195,139 and a district population of 262,238. The Limassol municipality is the most populated in Cyprus, with a population of 108,105, followed by Strovolos in Nicosia. Limassol was built between two ancient Greek cities, Amathus and Kourion. Its historical centre is located around the medieval Limassol Castle and the Old Port. Today the city spreads along the Mediterranean coast and has extended much farther than the castle and port, with its suburbs stretching along the coast to Amathus. To the west of the city is Akrotiri, one of the two British Overseas Territories of Akrotiri and Dhekelia on the island. One Limassol
One Limassol, otherwise known as simply One, is a high-rise apartment building in Limassol, Limassol, Cyprus. Construction for the project was meant to begin in early 2016, but was pushed back to November 2017. It has a total of 38 floors and it rises to a height of 170 meters (558 ft.), making it the tallest building in Cyprus. One Tower was designed by architect Hakim Khennouchi (WKK Architects) and Eraclis Papachristou Architects (Architects of record). Structural design was completed by Buro Happold Engineering and PPA. Due to the complex concave shape which is variable throughout its height, geometry and computational consultants SEAMLEXITY were utilised to optimise and segregate the skin to doubly curved GRC panels. Yiannis Armeftis
Yiannis Armeftis (Greek: Γιάννης Αρμεύτης; born 1971) is a Greek Cypriot architect who has served as the Mayor of Limassol since 1 July 2024. Political career Armeftis served as a municipal councillor of Limassol from 2007 to 2016, during Andreas Christou's mayoral tenure. During this time, he was President of the Development and Tourism Committee, head of DIKO's Municipal Group, and the Union of Municipalities' representative on the Council for the Study of Deviations. In the municipal election on June 9, 2024, he ran as an independent candidate supported by AKEL, DIKO, EDEK, and Volt Cyprus. Strovolos
Strovolos (; ; ) is a municipality in the Nicosia district, of Cyprus. It is a part of the Nicosia urban area. With a population of 71,123, it is the second most populated municipality in Cyprus, after Limassol, and the most populated municipality in the Nicosia District. It was established in 1986. Strovolos covers approximately , and is divided into six quarters: Apostolos Varnavas kai Ayios Makarios, Ayios Demetrios, Ayios Vasilios, Chryseleousa, Ethnomaryras Kyprianos, and Stavros. Nicosia, also known as Lefkosia and Lefkoşa, is the capital and largest city of Cyprus. It is the southeasternmost of all EU member states' capital cities. Telephone numbers in Cyprus follow a closed telephone numbering plan which was adopted on 1 December 2001. As a result, for landline phone numbers the digit 2 followed by the old area code was affixed to the subscriber number and for mobile phones 9 was affixed to the phone number. John The Merciful
John V Eleemon (), also known as John the Almsgiver, John the Almoner, John the Compassionate, or John the Merciful, was the Chalcedonian/Melkite Patriarch of Alexandria in the early 7th century (from 606 to 616). He was born in Amathus around 560. Originally appointed by the emperor Heraclius, he later resisted attempts by the emperor to persecute the monophysites. At the end of his life he was obliged to flee back to Cyprus, where he died around 620. He was unusual for his time in a number of ways.
