PANORAMIC Trial
The Platform Adaptive Trial of Novel Antivirals for Early Treatment of COVID-19 in the Community (PANORAMIC Trial) is a clinical trial in the United Kingdom to test the effectiveness of new antiviral drugs at the early stages of COVID-19 infections. The study aims to find out if antivirals can prevent the need for hospitalisation and help faster recovery for people aged over 50 and those at higher risk due to underlying health conditions. PANORAMIC is sponsored by the University of Oxford and funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The trial was launched in December 2021, and as of June 2022, over 25,000 people are enrolled as participants. Molnupiravir
Molnupiravir, sold under the brand name Lagevrio, is an antiviral medication that inhibits the replication of certain RNA viruses. It is used to treat COVID-19 in those infected by SARS-CoV-2. It is taken by mouth. Molnupiravir is a prodrug of the synthetic nucleoside derivative ''N''4-hydroxycytidine and exerts its antiviral action by introducing copying errors during viral RNA replication. Solidarity Trial
The Solidarity trial for treatments is a multinational Phase III-IV clinical trial organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners to compare four untested treatments for hospitalized people with severe COVID-19 illness. The trial was announced 18 March 2020, and as of 6 August 2021, 12,000 patients in 30 countries had been recruited to participate in the trial. In May, the WHO announced an international coalition for simultaneously developing several candidate vaccines to prevent COVID-19 disease, calling this effort the Solidarity trial for vaccines. Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir
Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir, sold under the brand name Paxlovid, is a co-packaged oral medication, developed by Pfizer and used as a treatment for COVID-19.
