PAF Base Sakesar
Pakistan Air Force Base Sakesar abbreviated (PAF Base Sakesar), , is a radar base of the Pakistan Air Force situated in the center of Pakistan. Established at the highest point of the Soon Valley, the base is located from Mianwali. The area including the base itself is a tourist attraction known for its lush green and cool environment. History Early years The base's history traces back to 1954 when the Pakistan Air Force selected the Sakesar hilltop for a future high-powered radar installation site. The base's location and height were favorable for providing radar surveillance to West Pakistan's airspace in the northeast. Initially, two Marconni Type-21 radars were deployed in 1958 and in 1961 PAF Station Sakesar was officially established with Wing Commander Amanullah Khan serving as the first station commander. Sakesar
Sakesar ( Punjabi, Urdu: سكيسر) is the highest mountain in the Salt Range in Punjab, Pakistan. Its height is . It lies on the outer fringes of the Soon Valley in Khushab District in the Punjab province. The small village of Sakesar is named after the mountain and Uchhali Lake is just below it. History The mountain used to be the summer headquarters for the deputy commissioners of three districts: Campbellpur (now Attock), Mianwali, and Sargodha. The Pakistan Air Force selected it in the late 1950s as the site for a high-powered radar which would provide air defence cover for the northeastern part of the western wing. The hilltop of Sakesar is located in the Salt Range, starting from Sohawa (in Jhelum District) in the east and spreading westward.
