P. J. Williams
Kenneth Lamar "P. J." Williams (born June 1, 1993) is an American football free safety for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Florida State. He was the Defensive MVP of the 2014 BCS National Championship Game. Early years Williams attended Vanguard High School in Ocala, Florida, where he played high school football. He played cornerback and wide receiver. He was ranked by Rivals.com as the nations ninth best safety recruit. In addition to football, he was also a sprinter for the track team. He ran a career-best time of 10.68 seconds in the 100 meters at the prelims of the 2011 FHSAA 3A District 5 Championships. College career As a true freshman in 2012, Williams played in 14 games recording 14 tackles. As a sophomore in 2013, Williams made 35 tackles, had three interceptions and scored a touchdown. Free Safety
Safety is a position in gridiron football on the defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university.
