P. J. Garvan
Patrick J. Garvan (1928 - 23 February 2021) was an Irish hurler who played for Kilkenny Senior Championship club Dicksboro and at inter-county level with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lined out at midfield. Career Garvan first played hurling with the Dicksboro club. He was a member of the club's senior team that beat Éire Óg to win the 1950 Kilkenny SHC title. It was around this time that Garvan joined the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He made 15 championship appearances and was a non-playing substitute when Kilkenny beat Waterford to win the All-Ireland Championship title in Leinster Championship medals. Death Garvan died at his residence in Ballycallan, County Kilkenny on 23 February 2021, aged 92. Dicksboro GAA
Dicksboro is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny City, Ireland. History Dicksboro GAA Club, founded in 1909. The club takes its name from Dicksboro townland, located next to Kilkenny Airport, the current ground is Palmerstown, to the west of the city. Dicksboro entered and won the junior championship of 1910. Dicksboro entered the senior championship in 1911. Dicksboro had no team from 1961 to 1969, until the club was reformed. Dicksboro officially opened the grounds in Palmerstown in June 1990. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the St Canice's Credit Union Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Kilkenny SHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. Éire Óg GAA was a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was almost solely concerned with the game of hurling. History The Éire Óg club was founded in Kilkenny CBS in 1931. Initially adopting blue and white colours and called Young Irelands, the club quickly became Éire Óg and changed to green and white. The club first came to hurling prominence by winning five Kilkenny MAHC titles in six seasons between 1932 and 1937. A number of these schoolboy players from this grade went on to form the nucleus of the club's adult team over the following decade. The 1950 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 56th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board.
